Wombi - Figma to Shopify: Structured Lifestyle Store Built for Scale

Wombi is a California based mobility company offering premium e bike subscriptions designed to make everyday transportation more convenient, affordable, and sustainable. Instead of purchasing an e bike outright, customers can subscribe to a premium electric bike with insurance, maintenance, roadside assistance, and ongoing support included in a single monthly plan. Wombi partners with leading e bike manufacturers to provide a hassle free ownership experience, allowing customers to enjoy the benefits of cycling without the long term commitment or maintenance concerns associated with buying a bike.

The company is driven by a mission to encourage more people to replace car journeys with cleaner, healthier, and more enjoyable forms of transportation. Whether commuting to work, running errands, or taking children to school, Wombi aims to make premium e bikes accessible to a wider audience through a flexible subscription model. Their digital storefront plays a critical role in communicating this value proposition, educating potential customers, and guiding them through the subscription journey.

Wombi primarily serves urban residents looking for a smarter alternative to car ownership and traditional commuting. Their audience includes professionals, families, students, and environmentally conscious individuals who want a reliable, convenient, and cost effective way to travel around the city. Many customers use their e bikes for daily commuting, school drop offs, grocery shopping, and recreational rides.

These customers value convenience, flexibility, and a premium user experience. Before committing to a subscription, they need clear information about pricing, available bike models, included services, and the overall subscription process. As a result, the website needed to provide a seamless browsing experience across desktop and mobile devices, making it easy for visitors to explore the offering, understand the benefits, and confidently start their subscription journey.

The Challenge

Before development began, we worked with the client to understand both their immediate launch requirements and their long term business goals.

The primary objectives included:

  • Accurately translate approved Figma designs into Shopify.

  • Deliver a pixel accurate storefront without compromising usability.

  • Build using Shopify Online Store 2.0 architecture.

  • Create reusable sections that could be managed without developer assistance.

  • Ensure consistent performance across desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.

  • Minimize unnecessary code and third party app dependencies.

  • Build a scalable foundation capable of supporting future growth.

  • Deliver a clean and maintainable codebase.

  • Ensure an intuitive customer journey from landing page to checkout.

Rather than simply recreating screens from Figma, the goal was to develop a production ready ecommerce experience that balanced visual precision with long term maintainability.

Although Wombi had completed the design phase, the project still faced several common challenges that many growing Shopify brands encounter before development begins.

Static Design Files

Figma provides an excellent design environment, but static mockups do not automatically translate into a functional ecommerce experience. Every interaction, layout adjustment, responsive behavior, and Shopify specific feature still needs to be carefully developed.

Scalability

Many first generation Shopify stores rely heavily on custom coded templates that become difficult to maintain over time. Wombi wanted a structured implementation that could grow alongside the business without requiring significant redevelopment.

Content Management

The client wanted the ability to update banners, promotional sections, featured collections, and homepage content independently through Shopify's Theme Editor.

Responsive Experience

The design needed to look polished across desktops, tablets, and smartphones without sacrificing usability or performance.

Performance

Heavy page builders, unnecessary applications, and inefficient code can negatively affect loading speed and user experience. Performance optimization was an important consideration from day one.

Maintainability

The client wanted a store that future developers could easily understand and extend without unnecessary complexity.

Solution

We transformed the approved Figma designs into a fully custom Shopify storefront using Shopify Online Store 2.0. Throughout development, every component was built with long term scalability, maintainability, and performance in mind.

Instead of relying on large page builders or excessive applications, we focused on native Shopify functionality wherever possible. This resulted in a lean architecture that provides flexibility while minimizing unnecessary complexity.

Every page was carefully developed to match the approved designs while ensuring an intuitive customer experience across all screen sizes.

Pixel Accurate Development

Every layout, spacing rule, typography style, image treatment, and visual hierarchy was implemented to closely match the approved Figma designs.

Shopify Online Store 2.0

The project was built using Shopify's Online Store 2.0 framework, allowing the client to manage content through reusable sections and blocks without modifying code.

Custom Homepage

The homepage was developed as a collection of flexible sections that could easily be reordered, updated, duplicated, or removed through Shopify's Theme Editor.

Collection Pages

Collection templates were optimized for clear product discovery while maintaining the visual language established in the designs.

Product Pages

Product pages were developed with a strong emphasis on usability, ensuring customers could quickly understand products and make confident purchasing decisions.

Mobile First Development

Each component was tested across multiple viewport sizes to ensure a consistent experience regardless of device.

Clean Navigation

Navigation was structured to make product discovery intuitive while reducing unnecessary clicks throughout the shopping journey.

Performance Optimization

The storefront was developed using lightweight, maintainable code with careful attention given to performance.

This included:

  • Minimizing unnecessary JavaScript

  • Optimizing image loading

  • Reducing third party dependencies

  • Maintaining clean theme architecture

Reusable Components

Rather than creating one off templates, we built reusable sections that support future marketing campaigns and merchandising needs.

Quality Assurance

Before launch, the storefront underwent extensive testing to ensure consistency across modern browsers and devices while verifying responsive behavior, layout integrity, and core ecommerce functionality.

Result

The completed Shopify storefront successfully delivered the client's approved vision while providing a scalable technical foundation for future growth.

The client launched with a modern ecommerce experience that accurately reflected their brand identity and provided the flexibility needed to evolve the website over time.

The project achieved several important business outcomes:

  • Successful translation of Figma designs into Shopify

  • Pixel accurate implementation

  • Mobile optimized experience

  • Reusable Online Store 2.0 sections

  • Clean navigation structure

  • Lean, maintainable codebase

  • Strong performance focused architecture

  • Flexible content management

  • Scalable foundation for future enhancements

Rather than delivering only a visually appealing storefront, the final result balanced design quality with practical ecommerce functionality and long term maintainability.
