Shopify Experts for Stores in Nigeria

A Nigerian Shopify store meets its hardest decision at checkout, not in the theme editor. Nigerian stores can't switch on Shopify Payments, so every order runs through a third-party payment provider and every price has to work in naira.

That decides what kind of help you need. The Shopify experts for stores in Nigeria on this page all work remotely. They're agencies and freelancers with bases outside the country and a stated interest in African clients. Nigeria's own entry in the directory is still close to empty, and we'd rather show people who can do the job from elsewhere than pad a local list.

Language won't slow you down. Shopify runs both the admin and the checkout in English, so the real test of an expert is the provider integration, naira pricing and manual tax set-up.

Send a short brief with your catalogue size, provider shortlist and launch date, and request quotes from the experts below.

I help DTC brands ($5M-$100M) break through growth plateaus by diagnosing what's limiting scale - usually they're driving traffic that doesn't convert, customer experience has friction, or teams are misaligned - then building the execution discipline to make growth predictable.

Hiring Shopify experts for Nigeria from abroad

Nigeria-based profiles on shopexperts are still rare. The experts you see here operate from abroad, with Africa among the regions they serve. Treat them as remote hires from the first call and set the engagement up to match.

Agree working hours before you agree a price. A remote expert is only useful if they're reachable when orders, payment errors and customer questions arrive. Ask for a fixed daily window when they'll reply, and who covers launch week if something breaks outside it.

Choose the contract currency on purpose. Your customers pay in naira, while most remote experts quote in another currency. Decide who carries the exchange-rate risk, write it into the contract, and pay in milestones tied to delivered work rather than one lump sum upfront.

Keep every account in your name. Register the store, the domain, your payment provider login and every app subscription to yourself, on your own card. The expert gets staff access, and payouts and renewals never pass through anyone else.

Ask for a reference that sells into Nigeria. An expert who has launched stores in Europe hasn't necessarily wired up a third-party provider or priced a catalogue in naira. Ask for one live store selling to Nigerian customers and put a test basket through it yourself.

Vetting a remote developer for a Nigerian store

For a Nigerian store, a weak hire usually shows first in payments and naira pricing, so start your questions there.

Ask questions with answers you can check. Which outside payment providers have you wired into Shopify before, and can I see one of those checkouts live? How will you keep naira prices consistent across products, discount codes and shipping rates? What will you need from my accountant? Hand-waving at this stage usually means hand-waving at launch.

Buy a day or two of their time first. Before the full build, give the expert something real, bounded and quick to check: connect your chosen provider to a development store and push a test order through, or set up shipping zones for two delivery regions. You'll see how they report progress and flag problems before the real money is committed.

Brief for Nigeria, not for a generic store. Cover:

- the payment provider you've chosen, and whether that account is already approved

- whether you sell only inside Nigeria or abroad too, and in which currencies

- how orders reach customers and how returns come back

- catalogue size, and whether products are moving from another platform

- your launch date and who on your side signs off work

Payments, naira and tax: the Nigerian set-up checklist

Three parts of Shopify's usual set-up work differently for a store based in Nigeria, and a fourth needs no work at all. A good expert covers all four in the first conversation, before any theme work begins.

Payments need an outside provider. Shopify's in-house processing is off the table for Nigerian stores, and its documentation points merchants there to a third-party payment provider. Your expert should confirm the provider handles naira (NGN), connect it, and run real test orders before launch. If the provider work is the whole job, a payment gateway specialist is the narrower hire.

Tax is set by hand. Of Shopify's three tax set-ups, only Manual Tax is open to Nigerian stores. Someone has to enter the rates and keep them current, unless a third-party tax app takes over that chore. Your expert configures the settings; your accountant confirms the rates. Don't let one stand in for the other.

Till hardware comes from other retailers. Nigeria isn't on the delivery list for Shopify's own hardware store. Merchants there buy compatible POS devices from other retailers, so if a shop or pop-up is planned alongside the online store, get your expert to vet each model before you pay for it.

English covers both sides. The admin and the checkout support English in full, so staff training and customer-facing text need no translation work. Spend that budget on the payment set-up instead.

What Nigerian stores hire remote experts to do

These cover most of it, roughly in the order they come up:

Payment provider integration

Picking, wiring in and test-driving a provider for naira orders

Naira pricing

Products, discount codes and shipping rates priced consistently in NGN

Manual tax settings

Rates entered and maintained by hand, or handed to a tax app

Customers outside Nigeria

Shipping zones, currencies and checkout tests for buyers abroad

Store migration

Products, customers and order history moved over from another platform

In-person selling

Supported POS hardware bought from other retailers and synced with online stock

Nigerian merchants' questions about hiring Shopify help

How do remote experts price a Nigerian store set-up?

Each expert sets their own rates, and shopexperts doesn't publish a Nigerian price range, because too few experts are based in the country to give a fair figure. Scope moves the number more than anything: a naira-only launch on an existing theme is a far smaller job than a migration with a new design and selling abroad. Decide which of those you're buying before you ask for quotes.

Does a Nigerian launch need a team or one person?

Pick on the shape of the job, not the label. An agency suits a launch with several moving parts at once — a migration, a new theme, a payment provider and selling abroad — because it splits the work across people and covers sick days. A freelancer who has already done payment and tax set-up for a store like yours is usually enough for a single-currency launch, and cheaper to brief.

Can I move an existing online shop to Shopify from Nigeria?

Yes, and the catalogue is usually the easy part. What catches people out is the plumbing: a fresh third-party payment connection, manual tax rates typed in again, and old product URLs pointed at the new pages so search traffic survives the move. Ask for a redirect list and a test order in naira before you switch the domain over.

Can my Nigerian store take orders from abroad as well?

It can, but decide that at set-up rather than bolting it on later. Your expert needs to know which countries you'll ship to, which currencies customers should see, and whether your payment provider accepts payments from those countries. Check that last point first. A provider that handles naira orders well may not take payments from buyers abroad, and that changes the whole plan.

What should a remote expert hand over when the work is done?

A short written record: every setting changed, how the payment provider is configured, which tax rates were entered and where they came from, which apps were installed and why, plus the naira price file used to load the catalogue. Ask for it at each milestone, not only at the end, when goodwill is at its lowest. Writing it takes the expert an hour; reconstructing it without one takes the next person days.
