Shopify Counter Help: App Setup, Wi-Fi and Live Order Display

This is a small project, so be honest about which parts need someone else.

Getting it online. The counter only joins 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, or takes an Ethernet cable. Warehouses and shared offices often need a separate network name or a cable run to the wall where it will sit, and that is IT work rather than Shopify work.

Pairing the device and the app. The link runs through a Smiirl account: register the Counter ID, then copy an identifier and token from the Push Number option into the Shopify Counter app. A wrong paste means blank flaps.

Deciding what it counts. Orders or sales, over a chosen timeframe. It starts from the total already in that window, not from zero, so pick the window before the launch party.

Moving off the original app. Counters set up before March 2025 must install the new app. Shopify set March 1, 2026 as the retirement date for the old one.

Multi-store brands. Shopify's FAQ says multiple stores aren't supported yet. A combined figure is custom work outside the app, so get a written plan before paying for it.

When to just do it yourself. One store, a 2.4 GHz network near a socket, and twenty minutes with the setup guide.

The best fit is often a store operations generalist who also knows networks, not a theme developer. Store settings and configuration specialists usually cover both.

Ask how they will connect it. A good answer checks the band first and names a fallback: a dedicated 2.4 GHz network or an Ethernet run. Anyone planning to use a 5 GHz guest network hasn't read the FAQ.

Ask what number will show on day one. They should explain that it counts the total already inside your timeframe, and that admin order numbers start at 1,000 by default, so the flaps won't match order #1047.

Ask about update timing. Refresh runs from real time to every 24 hours, set in my.smiirl.com. They should agree the setting with you.

Be wary of feature promises. Net sales, several stores on one counter or a custom metric are not in the app as listed. Treat any quote that includes them as a custom build, or ask a marketing analytics specialist for a proper dashboard instead.

A one-visit scope. Network, pairing, metric and timeframe, then a test order to watch the flaps move. That is a fixed-price job, not an open retainer.

Two sizes. Counter 5 has five digits and a 16.5 inch facade, good for up to 100,000 sales or orders. Counter 7 has seven digits on a 22.2 inch facade, up to 10 million.

Power and network. A 5V adapter with an 8.2 ft cable, and either 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi or Ethernet. Plan the spot around a socket.

Connected means striped. When the device reaches the internet, every flap turns from blank to striped. Keep it plugged in while orders sync, which can take a few minutes.

One store per counter. Multiple stores aren't supported yet, according to Shopify Supply's FAQ.

It makes noise. There is no speaker, but the flaps are audible when a new order or sale lands. Think about that before mounting it beside a desk.

No returns. The device is non-returnable and non-refundable, with a limited 2-year manufacturer warranty handled by Smiirl.

Shipping. It ships from the US to most countries, with a list of exclusions, and dispatches within 2 to 3 business days. Shop Pay Installments are US only.

The app itself. Free, English only, launched November 2024, with support provided by Shopify.
