Shopify Video Production for Product Pages and Brand Films
Plenty of brands pay for a beautiful video and then find it doesn't fit anywhere on the store. It's too long for a product page, horizontal when the ads need vertical, and built around a voiceover nobody hears on a muted phone.
Shopify video production is live-action filming planned around where the footage will actually run: short product videos for the product gallery, brand films for the homepage and About page, how-it's-made pieces, and campaign footage cut down for social. It doesn't cover animation or 3D motion, explainer-style demos, or footage made by creators and influencers. Those are separate services with different crews.
Few of the listings are dedicated video studios, so ask for product work specifically rather than a general showreel. Then compare below or request a quote for your shoot.

How to hire a product videographer
Video is the design service where a thin brief costs the most. A crew day is expensive, and anything you forget to shoot means booking another one.
Watch the reel for product, not atmosphere. Moody brand films are easy to admire. Look for close, well-lit shots of small products where texture, scale and use are obvious. If every clip is people and landscapes, you may be looking at a strong filmmaker but not a product videography team.
Ask who's actually on the crew. A quote can mean one shooter-editor, or a director, camera operator, lighting technician and stylist. Both can be right for different jobs. Know which you're paying for and who turns up on the day.
Agree deliverables by format and length. List every output before the shoot: the main product video, a vertical edit, a short loop, a silent version for the product page. A crew can only cover what it knows it needs to frame for.
Send more product than you think. Liquids get poured, boxes get creased, labels scuff under hot lights. Ask how many units the crew needs, and keep a few pristine hero units unopened until the camera rolls.
Settle music and talent rights in writing. Music licensed for organic web use may not cover paid ads, and a model release for social may not cover a year on your homepage. Ask what each licence covers and for how long.
Red flags. No shot list before the shoot. A single price with no breakdown of crew, edit rounds and music. A reel with no product work. And no questions about where the video will play on your store.
Product video production for the product page, not just social
Social video and product page video do different jobs. Social has to stop a scroll. A product page video has to answer a question the photos can't, for someone who's already interested.
Assume no sound. Many shoppers browse on a phone with the sound off, and some themes autoplay gallery video muted. Show the product being used, opened, poured or worn, and keep on-screen text to a few words. If the story needs a voiceover, it belongs in the brand film, not the gallery.
Keep it short and loopable. Ten to thirty seconds is plenty for a product clip. A clean loop, ending where it starts, works well where the theme repeats gallery video. Themes differ here: some autoplay and loop product media video, others show a play button, so check yours before the edit.
Upload natively where you can. Shopify lets merchants add video files directly to product media alongside images, as well as link hosted videos. An uploaded file plays inside the gallery like any other media item; an embed brings the host platform's player and branding with it. Export a web-sized version rather than uploading the master.
Shoot once, deliver three shapes. Brief the crew to frame for 16:9, 1:1 and 9:16 from the same setups, with the product kept in the centre-safe area. One well-planned day can then cover the product page, a homepage video banner and vertical social cuts. Cropping vertical out of a tight horizontal frame usually cuts the product in half.
How much does product and brand video production cost?
Video quotes swing widely because crew size, locations and edit volume each scale on their own. Typical ranges:
Product video
$500 – $5,000
Per video, studio or simple location
Brand film
$5,000 – $50,000
Concept, crew, locations, edit
Crew day rate
$1,500 – $5,000
Before edit, music and usage
The shoot is the fixed cost. The edit list is where a budget stretches. Once the footage exists, extra cut-downs — a 15-second and a 6-second version, a vertical 9:16 edit, a silent loop for the product page — cost a fraction of the shoot day. Plan them in the brief rather than ordering them one at a time afterwards.
Budget separately for music licensing and talent usage rights. Both are often excluded from the headline quote and priced by channel and duration, with paid media use typically costing more than organic. Send your shot list and the formats you need to get a quote.
What does an ecommerce video production team deliver?
Most Shopify video briefs combine two or three of these from a single shoot:
Product page videos
Short, silent-friendly clips for the product gallery
Brand films
Longer story pieces for the homepage and About page
How it's made
Workshop, sourcing and process footage that shows craft
Campaign shoots
Launch and seasonal footage planned for several channels at once
Social cut-downs
Vertical and square edits taken from the same footage
Edit and colour grade
Editing, grading, captions and exports in every format you need
Frequently asked questions about Shopify video production
A freelance shooter-editor suits simple studio product clips and quick social edits. A product video production company earns its fee when the shoot needs a director, lighting crew, stylist, locations or talent, or when many SKUs must match one look. The deciding question is who plans the shot list and who is responsible if something goes unfilmed.
The producer runs everything except the camera: budget, schedule, crew booking, locations, talent releases, product logistics and shot list sign-off. On small shoots the director or videographer covers this. On anything with talent or locations, a dedicated producer is usually what keeps the day on schedule and the final bill close to the quote.
Start with the products where photos leave questions: how something moves, pours, folds, fits or feels. One short clip for each hero product is usually a better spend than a video for every SKU. If budget is tight, a half-day studio shoot covering several hero products makes more sense as a first step than a single brand film.
Sometimes, but plan it. Frame grabs from video are rarely sharp enough for main product images. If you want stills, book a photographer on set or schedule a separate stills block with its own lighting. One person trying to shoot both at once usually compromises both.
Whoever the contract says. Many producers license the finished edits to you and keep the raw files. If you want to re-edit later, reuse clips in ads or hand footage to another editor, ask for ownership of the raw footage or a defined licence up front. It costs far less to agree before the shoot than after it.
A studio product shoot usually needs a week or two of planning, one shoot day, then a week or more of editing and revision rounds. Brand films with casting, locations and talent take considerably longer. Revision rounds are the usual source of delay, so fix their number in the contract and name one person on your side who signs off.
