Find the Best Shopify Experts in Hong Kong
A Hong Kong store gets Shopify Payments with HKD payouts and a checkout that runs in Traditional Chinese or English. What it doesn't get is any automated tax set-up: Shopify leaves the rates to you. That's why your first conversation with an expert should cover tax and language before themes.
As of October 2026, 8 Shopify experts in Hong Kong have a profile on shopexperts: 7 agencies and 1 freelancer, most giving Hong Kong or Central as their base. All eight do store setup and management, six take on Shopify development and five offer marketing and growth.
The Hong Kong profiles come first in the list below. Pick a shortlist from them and get quotes against one brief that names the store's lead language up front.

Who builds, who markets, who writes Chinese: the Hong Kong list
The language gap to watch. All eight list English. Only one lists Chinese, and one lists Japanese. Your checkout can run in Traditional Chinese (more on that below), but Shopify won't write your product pages. Where your customers read Chinese, ask every agency who writes and checks that copy, and whether it happens in-house or goes to a contractor.
Seven agencies, one freelancer. The local list is agency-heavy. If you only need a few hours of help a month, your realistic options are the single local freelancer and the regional experts further down.
Where they're based. Most profiles give Hong Kong or Central as their city. For online work, location makes little difference. It matters for in-store POS training and not much else.
A bench that builds and markets. Store setup and management appears on all eight profiles, Shopify development on six and marketing and growth on five. Consulting follows on four, design on three and copywriting on two. Most of the local list will build a store and drive traffic to it; only one profile lists looking after it afterwards. Agree support terms before you sign the build contract, not after launch.
Further down the page. Hong Kong-based experts sit at the top. After them come specialists from other countries who also accept Hong Kong and wider Asia work, which helps when you want more freelancers to choose from or a specialist for a narrow technical job.
Local agency or the wider Asia list: deciding for a Hong Kong store
Start with what the project touches. The more of it that sits in your accounts, your tax settings or your Chinese-language copy, the stronger the case for a Hong Kong agency.
Keep it local for launches, migrations and rebuilds. These run for weeks, involve your Shopify Payments account and HKD payouts, and need someone who picks up the phone in your business hours. Ask for two live Hong Kong stores and the name of the person who would run your project day to day.
Look regional for contained technical work: an app conflict, a new theme section, a speed fix. Ask for a fixed price, a delivery date and confirmation that they'll work on a duplicate theme so nothing breaks on the live store.
Split the work if the budget is tight. A local agency makes the set-up decisions; a regional freelancer handles routine tasks afterwards, working from the agency's handover notes. Write those notes into the build contract as a deliverable, or they won't exist.
Whichever route you take, send everyone an identical brief covering how many products you carry, the platform you're leaving, which languages the store needs, where you sell, and whether a shop counter needs Shopify POS.
HKD payouts, rates you set yourself and a bilingual checkout
Shopify Payments, paid out in Hong Kong dollars. Stores based in Hong Kong can take payments through Shopify Payments, with payouts in HKD. An expert should set it up under your company's details and run a live order before launch, so you see the money arrive before customers do.
Tax is yours to configure. Hong Kong has no Shopify Tax or Basic Tax option; Manual Tax is the only route. You, or your expert, enter every rate yourselves, and you may add a third-party tax app for extra help. Shopify's tax index has no Hong Kong-specific guide, so ask your accountant what to collect for each place you ship to before anyone types a rate in.
If tax is the part you're least sure of, a Shopify tax setup specialist can take that piece on its own.
POS hardware is a retail purchase. Card readers and receipt printers for a Hong Kong shop come from third-party retailers, because Shopify's own hardware store won't ship them there. A good expert matches every model to Shopify's list of supported hardware before any money changes hands.
Two languages for staff and shoppers. For Hong Kong stores, Shopify offers Traditional Chinese and English in both the admin and the checkout. Staff can work in whichever they prefer, and so can shoppers paying for an order. Expect your expert to ask which language leads, because that decides how the theme, notification emails and policy pages get written.

Before you hire a Shopify agency in Hong Kong: merchant questions
When the job needs several skills at once: build, design, Chinese copy and marketing in one launch plan. Hire a freelancer when the task is narrow and you can manage it yourself. Locally there's only one freelancer listed, so most freelance options for a Hong Kong store come from the regional part of the list. That's fine for technical work, less so for anything customer-facing in Chinese.
There's no published Hong Kong price range on this page yet, so don't trust a figure quoted without a scope. Quotes rise with catalogue size, bilingual content, migration from another platform and any POS set-up. Ask for line items: build, content in each language, tax configuration and training. Two quotes priced against the same brief tell you more than any published average.
Expect requests for owner-level decisions, not just logins: which language leads, which places you ship to, who signs off tax rates, and whether you'll trade in person. Then the practical items: staff access to the store, your Shopify Payments details, brand files and product data. An expert who starts designing before asking about tax and language is skipping the parts that cause rework.
Start with two of the agency's live stores and test them on a phone, in both languages if they offer both. Ask who wrote the Chinese copy, who looks after the stores now, and what broke after launch. Agencies that answer the last question honestly tend to be the ones worth hiring.
Most Hong Kong stores don't. Plus earns its cost at high order volumes or when you need features the standard plans lack. If you're on a standard plan and selling mainly at home, hire for relevant work and support terms, not for a Plus credential you won't use.
Mostly tax and language. With Manual Tax as the only built-in route, each destination's rates are yours to confirm with your accountant and enter, unless you add a third-party tax app. Decide which language each market sees, because a Traditional Chinese checkout won't suit every buyer. Payouts still arrive in HKD, so set foreign prices with that in mind.
