Try adjusting your search terms
A redirect that guesses wrong costs a sale and can hide a regional site from search. Most of the paid work is making sure neither happens.
Redirect, ask or leave alone. Each country needs a decision: automatic redirect, popup, or nothing. Shopify's guidance is that stores on EU country domains, such as a .fr site, need a consent-based approach, which is where a popup that asks first earns its place.
Mapping every destination. Blaze redirects to Shopify Markets, separate expansion stores and custom URLs, with custom rules and multi-store routing. Every country should map to exactly one place, or shoppers end up in the wrong currency.
Selectors shoppers can find. Country, currency and language switchers can sit in the header or footer, and the popup is customizable. Styling both to match the theme, on mobile first, is the visible part of the job.
Blocking with care. Country, bot and whitelist blocking are built in. Rules need writing down, including which test tools and team members stay whitelisted.
Campaign tracking. Blaze says it forwards UTM parameters through the redirect. Test that with real ad links before launch, ideally with an analytics person watching the reports.
Crawlability check. Blaze describes its redirects as Googlebot-safe. Have an SEO specialist confirm every regional version still gets crawled after launch.
Small setups can self-serve. One store with a couple of markets rarely needs a hire. Blaze offers free country selector setup over live chat.
Geo-redirects fail quietly. A shopper sees the wrong prices and leaves, and nobody notices. These questions find someone who tests for that.
Ask how they would treat EU country domains. A good answer mentions consent: a popup that asks before moving the shopper, not a forced redirect, in line with Shopify's own guidance.
Ask whether you need the app at all. An honest expert checks Shopify's automatic redirection in Markets preferences first. Blaze earns its place with popups, routing between separate stores, custom URLs and blocking rules.
Ask how shoppers undo a wrong guess. Travelers and expats get misplaced. Look for a visible selector and a choice the store remembers.
Ask for their test plan. Expect browsing from each target country through a VPN, on mobile and desktop, with tagged ad links, and a written log of what landed where.
Gaps in a proposal. Whole countries blocked without a reason. No way back for a shopper sent to the wrong store. No check on campaign tracking after launch.
One market, tested end to end. Pay for a single country pair configured, tested and documented before the rest of the map is built.
Detection. GeoIP country plus browser language, with IP address, country and language available as redirect triggers.
Modes. Auto-redirect, popup widget, manual redirect, error redirect and tracking.
Destinations. Shopify Markets, expansion stores and custom URLs, with multi-store redirects and custom rules.
Blocking. Country, bot and whitelist blocking.
Plan. As of October 2026, one Advanced plan at $7.49 a month or $62.90 a year, with unlimited redirect rules and visitors and a 14-day trial. Development and partner stores use it free.
Interface languages. The listing names 11, including English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Dutch and Japanese.
Why stores look for an app like this. Shopify removed its own Geolocation app on March 24, 2025. It points stores with dedicated or shared domains to automatic redirection under Settings, Markets, Preferences, where GeoIP is now part of that feature. Stores selling to EU customers on an EU country domain still need a consent-based approach, and Shopify suggests third-party geolocation apps for them.
Who makes it. Blaze Apps launched the app in December 2023, and it carries the Built for Shopify badge.
Most Blaze work falls into one of these. Scope the one closest to your next market launch.
A consent-first popup for country domains such as .fr or .de
Visitors sent to the right expansion store by country
Country, currency and language switchers in the header or footer
Tagged ad links checked for UTM parameters after the redirect
Country, bot and whitelist rules set and written down
Every country mapped to one market, domain or store

No. Shopify removed its Geolocation app from stores on March 24, 2025. For dedicated or shared domains it recommends automatic redirection in Markets preferences, which now includes GeoIP. Stores selling on EU country domains need a consent-based approach, and Shopify points them to third-party apps.
Not always. If one store with Markets domains or subfolders covers you, try Shopify's automatic redirection first. Blaze adds a popup that asks before redirecting, routing between separate stores and custom URLs, error redirects and country or bot blocking. Those are the cases where it pays for itself.
They can if set up carelessly. Blaze says its redirects are Googlebot-safe and that it forwards UTM parameters. Treat both as things to verify: run tagged ad links through the redirect, check your analytics, and have someone confirm search engines still reach each regional version.
Your markets, domains and any expansion stores, the countries you sell to most, and which of them use an EU country domain. Add the ad platforms that send traffic, your theme, and any countries you want blocked. That list becomes the redirect map.
