What Recharge experts do for subscription brands
Recharge work falls into a handful of jobs. A new programme needs most of them at launch; an established one usually needs one or two done properly.
Subscription setup. Selling plans, delivery intervals, subscribe-and-save discounts and which products carry them. These choices are hard to unwind once thousands of subscribers sit on them, so a good expert asks how fast customers actually use the product before touching a setting.
Subscriber migration. Moving active subscribers from another subscription platform onto Recharge. Recharge documents a migration process and an automated migration tool, but someone still has to map customer and subscription data, run a small test cohort and check it before the full move.
Checkout conversion. Stores still on the legacy Recharge Checkout on Shopify are being moved to the Shopify Checkout Integration. There, Shopify's Subscription APIs create the subscriptions, and one checkout takes subscription and one-time items in the same order.
Widget and portal. The Subscription Widget is a theme app block. Experts restyle it in the app and with CSS, and rework templates when the default layout fights the theme. The customer portal deserves the same care: skipping a delivery should take one tap, not an email to support.
Retention. Cancellation offers, failed-payment recovery, win-backs for lapsed buyers, loyalty credits and build-your-own bundles. Recharge's retention analytics benchmark your cohorts against other brands, which gives an expert a baseline before changing anything.
Custom builds. For larger brands, Recharge offers a custom API and a JavaScript SDK. Treat that as a separate developer project with its own scope.
How much does a Recharge expert cost?
These are the starting prices listed by Recharge-badge experts on shopexperts, in USD, as of October 2026, with zero-price profiles left out. Each is the lowest price an expert shows for any project, so treat it as a floor rather than a quote.
Middle half

Median

Top quarter
$635 – $5,000

The low end buys a defined task: restyling the widget, a portal tweak, a selling plan fix. Subscriber migrations and checkout conversions cost more because they touch live billing — they need a test cohort, a rollback plan and someone watching the first charge run after go-live. Custom work on the API or JavaScript SDK is usually quoted as a separate project.
To get quotes that line up side by side, include your active subscriber count, which checkout you're on, your theme and any subscription platform you're leaving. If you're on Recharge's Plus plan, the vendor includes hands-on implementation and migration support, so ask each expert what they'd add on top of it. Expert fees sit apart from anything Recharge bills you.
Recharge Shopify integration: checkout, widget and clashes
Which checkout you're on. The Shopify Checkout Integration is the current route, built on Shopify's Subscription APIs and compatible with checkout extensibility on Shopify Plus. Stores still on the legacy Recharge Checkout on Shopify are being pushed to convert, so settle this before anyone quotes other work.
Which widget is live. The Legacy Subscription Widget is deprecated and switched off by default for new stores. Its replacement is added as an app block on the product page and needs an Online Store 2.0 theme. Recharge also says page builder apps aren't compatible with it, so subscription products sitting on page-builder templates need a native template.
Shopify features that clash with subscriptions. Recharge's compatibility notes rule out Managed Markets, because Markets Pro doesn't support subscriptions, along with B2B, Shop Pay Installments and automatic or Buy X Get Y discounts on subscription items. If your plans for selling abroad or wholesale lean on any of these, raise it on the first call.
Shopify Flow. Recharge doesn't document its own Flow triggers or actions. Its guide tags subscription orders using Shopify's conditions, such as app name and selling plan, and warns that Recharge's own order tags land after an order is created, which can hold up automations that wait for them.
Old domain links. rechargepayments.com and its support site now redirect to getrecharge.com. Ask the expert to update help pages, notification templates and theme snippets that still point at the old address while they're in there.

Questions about Recharge subscriptions on Shopify
It depends on how much live billing is involved. Moving thousands of active subscribers, or a custom build on the Recharge API and JavaScript SDK, suits a Recharge agency that can test, watch the first charge run and fix problems the same day. A small migration, widget styling, portal tweaks or a selling plan fix sit comfortably with a freelancer. The badge splits evenly, 21 and 21, so you have a real choice either way.
No. Recharge runs its own Agency Partner Program with Registered, Select, Premier and Elite tiers, with Elite by invitation only, and lists members in its partner directory. On shopexperts, the Recharge badge simply means the expert includes Recharge work among their services. If a tier matters, find the expert in Recharge's partner directory before you sign.
If your store still runs the legacy Recharge Checkout on Shopify, yes. Recharge is moving those stores across, and the integration gives one checkout for subscription and one-time items. It isn't a toggle. Existing subscriptions, widget code and any custom portal work all need checking after the switch, so schedule it away from your busiest sales weeks.
Three causes cover most cases. The theme isn't an Online Store 2.0 theme, so the app block can't be added. The product sits on a page builder template, which Recharge says isn't compatible with the Subscription Widget. Or the store still depends on the Legacy Subscription Widget, which is deprecated and off by default for new stores.
Not according to Recharge's compatibility notes. Managed Markets is listed as incompatible because Markets Pro doesn't support subscriptions, and B2B and Shop Pay Installments are excluded too. If you sell internationally through Markets Pro or run wholesale on Shopify B2B, decide how subscriptions fit before anyone builds the storefront.
Yes. Recharge has a 60-day free trial on its App Store listing and pricing page, and no free plan. Use the trial to get the widget, portal and a test subscription order working, and ask your expert to walk a full cycle: sign-up, skip, swap, a failed payment and a cancellation. The Plus plan runs on a 12-month term, so be sure before upgrading.
