Shopify Blog Writing and SEO Content Writers
Most store blogs stall the same way. Posts go up, a few get read, and none of them point at anything the store sells.
Shopify blog writing done well starts from the catalogue. An SEO content writer finds the questions shoppers ask before they buy, answers them with buying guides, comparisons and care articles, and links each one to the collection or product that settles the question. The post arrives ready for the Shopify admin, SEO title and meta description included.
This isn’t a full SEO service: technical fixes, site structure and link building sit with Shopify SEO specialists. Planning content across email and social is content marketing, and product pages and homepage copy have their own writers.
Four writers list this service on shopexperts, split evenly between agencies and freelancers. Compare their profiles below.

What to check before paying for Shopify blog writing
Read articles they’ve published on a live store. A sample document proves someone can write. A published post shows whether they chose a topic people search for, linked it to a product and filled in the SEO title and meta description. Ask for two, and click every link in them.
Ask where their topic ideas come from. Good answers start with your catalogue and your customers: the questions your support inbox gets, the products people weigh against each other, the returns caused by choosing the wrong size. A keyword tool confirms there’s demand. It shouldn’t pick the topic on its own.
Check they can write about what you sell. A writer who already knows cookware will get a pan buying guide right faster than a generalist learning on your budget. In categories with rules on claims, such as supplements or cosmetics, ask how they handle wording that needs your sign-off.
Agree the handover before the first article. Decide whether you receive a document to paste or a draft saved in the Shopify admin with tags, featured image alt text, SEO title and meta description done. The second usually costs more. It also removes the step a busy team is most likely to skip.
Ask how updates are handled. Articles age: prices change, products are discontinued, a better guide gets written. Find out whether the writer revisits their own posts, and on what terms, before you commission a batch.
Be sceptical of guaranteed rankings. No writer controls where an article ranks. Treat traffic guarantees the same way, along with packages priced purely by word count with no topic list, and portfolios where not one article links to a product.
SEO blog writing that sends readers to what you sell
Write for buying questions first. The articles that earn their fee answer something a shopper asks before paying: which size, which material, this model or that one, how to look after it. Buying guides, comparisons and how-to-choose articles sit close to a purchase. A post chasing a broad informational query can pull plenty of visits and no orders.
Give each article one topic. Two posts on “how to choose trail shoes” and “best trail shoes for beginners” compete for the same searches, and often neither ranks well. Keep a simple sheet: one topic, one URL, and the collection each article supports.
Use the fields Shopify gives you. Blog posts live under /blogs/ followed by the blog’s name, and every post has its own SEO title and meta description, which should be written rather than left to default. Tags let the theme group related posts. Link from the article to the collection and from the collection description back to the guide, so the two pages support each other; the collection page SEO guide covers the collection side.
Refresh before you commission. A post that already gets impressions but sits on page two is usually cheaper to improve than a new article is to write. Ask any writer to start by reviewing what you’ve published: which posts to update, which to merge, and which to leave alone.
How much does SEO content writing cost?
Writers price per article or inside a monthly retainer, and the two don’t line up neatly. Typical ranges, with directory data for this page alongside:
SEO article
$150 – $600
Per 1,000–1,500-word article
Basic SEO retainer
$1,500 – $3,500
Per month; ask whether writing is included
Starting prices on shopexperts
$500 – $1,000
Across the 4 writers listed
Per-article prices climb with the research involved: a comparison that needs products tried or specs checked with suppliers costs more than a general guide. Publishing in your admin, sourcing images and interviewing your team add to it.
Retainers vary more than their price suggests. Some include articles and some cover technical SEO work only, so ask how many posts the monthly fee buys before setting it against a per-article quote.
The third tile shows the starting prices the four writers on this page publish, as of September 2026. Send each of them the same two topics from your list, and the quotes that come back will be comparable.
What an ecommerce content writer does for a Shopify store
The article is the core deliverable, but a store blog needs work around it:
Buying guides and comparisons
Articles that answer a pre-purchase question and point to a collection
Care and how-to-use articles
After-purchase guides linked from the product pages they support
Topic plan
One topic per URL, each mapped to the collection it serves
Refreshes and merges
Updating posts with impressions, combining posts that overlap
Publishing in the admin
SEO title, meta description, tags and image alt text filled in
Internal linking
Links from articles to products, and from collections back to guides
Questions about blog writing services for Shopify stores
The titles overlap, but in practice an SEO copywriter usually works on pages that sell directly, such as product, collection and landing pages, while an SEO content writer produces articles and guides that answer questions first and sell second. Plenty of people do both. Ask which one a proposal covers.
Most include enough research to confirm each topic: the phrase people search, the related questions and the pages ranking for it now. Fewer include a keyword map for the whole store, which decides which page targets which phrase. Ask whether the writer builds that map or expects it from you, because without one a new article can end up competing with your own collection page.
It can produce a first draft, and Shopify Magic, Shopify’s built-in AI, already offers that inside the admin. What a draft lacks is what makes an article worth ranking: knowledge of your products, notes from real use, the objections your customers raise. Paying a writer for unedited AI output makes little sense when the tool is already in your admin, so ask what each writer adds on top.
There’s no magic number. A pace you can sustain, with every post linked into the store and reviewed once a year, beats a burst of articles that go stale. Start with the buying questions attached to your best-selling collections, publish those well, then widen out. If nobody can check facts and update links, publish less.
It matters more for language than for location. US, Canadian and British English differ in spelling and idiom, and shoppers notice. In September 2026 the writers on this page are based in Canada, Germany and the United States, so ask each which English they write in and whether they also write in other languages if you sell beyond English-speaking markets.
After, in most cases. An article needs somewhere to send the reader, and a buying guide that lands on a thin product page wastes the click. Get product and collection copy into shape first, or commission both together, then build articles around the collections that already convert.
