I'm Phil, founder of Candystore Studio, a Shopify studio. I've spent over 12 years building for the web and the last 6 on Shopify, including work for brands such as BrewDog, Hoodrich, Ooni and Vuse UK.
Most of my work now is keeping Shopify stores working, secure and lean as brands do more themselves with AI tools and native Shopify features. Building a section with Sidekick or ChatGPT takes an afternoon. What takes the time is everything after: code that breaks on the next theme update, apps nobody remembers installing, scripts left behind by old apps, tracking that quietly stops. That is the part I take off your plate.
In practice that means auditing what is installed and who has access, repairing and documenting AI-generated code, replacing single-job apps with native Shopify features or clean theme code, and monthly care for brands that want an expert watching the store. My core stack is Liquid and Online Store 2.0, JavaScript and TypeScript, and I work regularly with Klaviyo, Recharge, Rebuy, Algolia and Judge.me. When a project needs design or branding, Candystore's design team works alongside me.

I honestly couldn't recommend Phil enough. I came to him after going around in circles for months trying to figure out how to build a wholesale ordering system for my bakery, and from the first conversation he understood what I was trying to achieve and made the whole thing feel straightforward and manageable. This wasn't a standard Shopify setup. We needed different products available to specific wholesale customers, delivery-day and cut-off rules, customer accounts, order notes and, most importantly, a way of turning all of those individual orders into something actually useful for production. Phil built the customer access and tagging logic and developed a custom production app for us which reads the Shopify orders for each delivery date, flags any problem orders, totals the quantities of each product for the kitchen and produces the individual customer information needed for deliveries. He also set everything up properly with version control rather than making changes directly to the live theme. What really stood out was that he didn't just build exactly what I asked for without questioning it. He understood how the business actually operates and suggested practical solutions around that. When Shopify itself had limitations, he found sensible ways around them rather than immediately suggesting expensive upgrades or piling on more apps. He was also very conscious of cost. More than once he suggested the simpler or cheaper option where he easily could have charged me for additional development, which gave me a huge amount of confidence in him. Communication was brilliant throughout. He explained the technical side in normal language, kept me updated as he worked and checked things with me whenever there was an actual business decision to make. I'm not particularly technical so this was great. Most importantly, he took what was a very manual process in our business and built a system around how we actually work. It's going to remove a huge amount of repetitive admin every single week. Absolutely delighted I found him and wouldn't hesitate to work with him again.
