I’m a german Shopify developer with over 5 years of experience working on e-commerce projects. My work focuses on custom Shopify development, store optimization, automations, and SEO foundations. I build and customize themes and apps using Liquid, HTML, CSS, GraphQL and JavaScript, and I regularly work with Shopify Flow and n8n to automate workflows and connect external tools. Projects I’m especially proud of include custom Shopify theme builds, clean migrations from WooCommerce and Shopware, and automation setups that significantly reduced manual work for store owners. I value clean code, clear communication, and solutions that are easy to maintain and scale over time.
Shopify Experts for Costa Rica, Working Remotely
The risky part of a Costa Rican Shopify build isn't the design. It's checkout, where the payment provider, prices in colones and hand-entered tax rates meet for the first time on a real order.
Stores based in Costa Rica have no Shopify Payments option, which is why that checkout depends on a third-party provider and careful testing. A good expert tests that meeting point before launch, not after your first refund request.
We don't have a Costa Rican shortlist yet, so the Shopify experts for Costa Rica listed below are remote specialists. They're based outside Costa Rica and take on merchants around Latin America.
Send two or three of them a brief that describes your checkout, not just your homepage, and ask for a fixed price.

Remote by default: hiring for a Costa Rican store
What the listing shows. The listing doesn't open with local experts, because too few are based in Costa Rica so far. The experts listed are located outside Costa Rica and work with Latin American merchants, which means every hire from this page is a remote one.
Panama has the same set-up. Stores in Panama get what Costa Rican stores get from Shopify: no Shopify Payments, Manual Tax only, POS hardware from outside retailers and a Spanish checkout. A small group of experts is based in Panama City, and their page is linked below. Someone who has launched a Panamanian store has already solved most of a Costa Rican one; ask whether they've priced a store in colones, then walk its checkout yourself.
The payment provider account is the one to guard. A third-party provider holds your customers' payments, so open that account in your own business's name, along with the Shopify store itself. The expert gets staff access to Shopify and, only if the integration needs it, limited access to the provider. When the project ends, you remove them; nothing has to be handed back.
Working hours decide how launch day goes. Agree a window each weekday when the expert can be reached, and how a checkout failure gets escalated outside it. An expert whose day barely overlaps yours can still do excellent build work. They just shouldn't be the only person on call when you go live.
Colones or another currency: decide before the quote. Your store sells in Costa Rican colones (CRC), while a remote expert could quote in something else. Agree the contract currency, who covers transfer fees and how exchange-rate swings are handled on longer projects, so the quote and the final invoice match.
A brief that gets a useful quote for a Costa Rican store
Remote experts quote from what you send them. A thin brief gets a padded quote; a precise one gets a number you can trust.
What to put in it:
- What you sell, how many products, and whether you also sell in person
- The payment provider you've chosen, or a request for advice on one that settles in colones
- Who supplies the tax rates (usually your accountant), noting that Shopify offers Manual Tax only for Costa Rica
- The store's language, and any second language you plan to add
- Your launch date and what must be working by then
Questions to send with it. Ask which checkout scenarios they'll test: a successful payment, a declined card, a refund and a discount code. An expert who lists those unprompted has launched stores before. Ask, too, what they'll need from you in the first week.
A paid first step. If two quotes look alike, pay your preferred candidate for a small fixed-price task first, such as connecting the provider on a development store and running those test scenarios. An expert who finds a problem you didn't know about has earned the full contract.
Five checks before a Costa Rican store goes live
Costa Rica's set-up comes down to five checks, and a capable expert works through them in this order.
1. Currency. The store prices in Costa Rican colones (CRC). Every price, discount and shipping rate should be set in colones and checked on the storefront before anything else.
2. Payments. With Shopify Payments unavailable in Costa Rica, a third-party provider handles checkout. The expert connects it and confirms that it accepts payments in colones and shows the methods your customers expect.
3. Tax. Costa Rican stores are limited to Manual Tax, without Shopify Tax or Basic Tax, which means the rates your accountant supplies are the rates customers pay, no more and no less, until someone changes them. The expert enters them, checks totals on test orders and can install a third-party tax app should you want the rates handled by software.
4. Language. Spanish works for staff in the Shopify admin and for customers at checkout. The expert should read the whole checkout in Spanish, including custom fields and the order confirmation email.
5. In-person sales. Shopify sells POS kit through its own hardware store, but not to Costa Rica, so devices come from third-party retailers. The expert confirms each device is supported before you buy, then runs a test sale at the counter.
Where a Costa Rican store needs an expert most
For a Costa Rican store, expert time pays back fastest on these jobs:
Checkout testing
Payments, refunds, discounts and declines tried before launch
Payment provider set-up
A third-party provider connected and settling in colones
Tax configuration
Manual rates keyed in from your accountant and proven on test orders
Spanish checkout and emails
Custom text and notifications translated to match
Platform migration
Products, customers and old URLs moved across cleanly
Before you hire Shopify experts for Costa Rica: FAQs
This page has no Costa Rican price range, so price the job from its scope. Ask for a fixed price against your written brief and an hourly rate for changes outside it. Make sure every quote is in the same currency, whether colones or the expert's own, or you'll be judging exchange rates instead of value. Check what testing is included, since that's the line cheap quotes drop first.
For a full launch, often yes. An agency can put a designer, a developer and someone running checkout tests on the job at once, and someone covers when your main contact is away. For a single task, such as connecting a payment provider or fixing a theme, a freelancer usually delivers the same result for less. Our freelancer vs agency guide goes deeper.
Ask them to build on a duplicate theme and send you a preview link before anything goes live. Place a test order yourself in colones, request a refund on it, and read the confirmation email. Ask for a short handover note listing every app installed and setting changed. If you can't follow the note, ask for a clearer one; you'll need it when someone else takes over.
Check each profile's languages before you shortlist, because the remote experts listed here vary. A developer without Spanish can still configure the store, but the checkout will run in Spanish, so someone fluent should write and proofread anything customers read. Hiring a Spanish-speaking expert saves that extra step.
Agree it in the contract rather than hoping. A sensible standard is a reply within one working day for routine requests and a much faster response for anything that stops orders, such as payments failing at your provider or a broken checkout. Ask how urgent issues reach them outside normal hours and who covers their holidays.
