Two settings shape a Mexican Shopify checkout more than any theme: whether meses sin intereses is offered, and how the tax rates were entered. Shopify offers only Manual Tax for stores based in Mexico, so someone has to enter those rates by hand or add a third-party tax app.
As of October 2026, 33 Shopify experts in Mexico have a shopexperts profile: 31 agencies and 2 freelancers. All 33 list Spanish and 30 also list English, so you can brief in either language. Store setup appears on every profile, marketing on nearly every one, with development and consulting close behind.
Shortlist from the profiles below, and ask your top three to quote in the same currency, pesos or dollars, so the numbers actually line up.
Spanish everywhere, English nearly everywhere. Every profile lists Spanish and 30 list English, with Italian, Dutch and French on one or two each. A foreign brand entering Mexico can run the project in English and keep the Spanish side with the same team.
Almost entirely agencies. 31 of the 33 experts based in Mexico are agencies; only 2 are freelancers. If you want a single person on a small budget, the Mexican profiles alone won't give you much choice.
Marketing ranks second. Store Setup & Management is on all 33 profiles and Marketing & Growth on 30, ahead of Shopify Development at 27. If you only need the build, say so in the brief and ask for marketing to be priced separately.
Cities. Profiles name Mexico City, Guadalajara, San Pedro Garza García, Mérida and Puebla. Most Shopify work runs remotely, so treat location as a tiebreaker rather than a filter.
After the Mexican profiles. Further down sit experts from other countries who take Latin American clients, worth scrolling if you want a freelancer or a skill the Mexican profiles don't cover.
The test that matters. An agency worth hiring here has a live Mexican store with meses sin intereses working at checkout, and someone on the team who can explain its tax rates line by line.
20 of the 33 Mexican profiles list a starting price, a small sample, so read the tiles as a rough guide. Figures are USD, from October 2026 profiles, and skip any expert whose listed price is zero. Each one is the smallest project that expert accepts, not a quote.

Read the low end carefully. A quarter of the Mexican profiles that list a price start at $35 or less. That tells you some experts take small tasks, not what a full store costs, so budget from the middle of the range for anything touching checkout, payments or tax.
Settle the currency. Shopify pays Mexican stores in pesos, but these starting prices are listed in dollars. Agree on MXN or USD in writing before work starts.
What changes the quote. Number of products, a migration from another platform, POS for a physical shop, and sales outside Mexico. Send those four facts with your URL and a budget range.
Paid out in pesos. Stores based in Mexico can run Shopify Payments, and payouts arrive in Mexican pesos. Through Shopify Payments, Shopify's docs list meses sin intereses: interest-free monthly instalments on credit cards, charged in MXN. Ask your expert how they'd present instalments on product pages and how they'll test them before launch.
Tax is manual. Shopify offers neither Shopify Tax nor its Basic Tax service for Mexico. Manual Tax is the only built-in route: you or your expert enter and maintain the rates, and third-party tax apps are allowed. Shopify's taxes index has no Mexico-specific guide, so get the rates from your accountant, in writing, before anyone types them in.
Retail hardware. For a shop counter in Mexico, Shopify's own hardware store is not an option. Instead, Shopify tells Mexican merchants to get supported POS devices through third-party retailers, so an expert planning the set-up should match each device to the kit Shopify supports before anything is bought.
Spanish end to end. Your team can work in a Spanish-language admin, and shoppers pay through a Spanish checkout. Product pages, policies and order emails still need Spanish written for Mexican shoppers, which is a writing job rather than a setting.
The red flag. An expert who assumes a US-style set-up carries over. Shopify automates nothing about tax here, and instalments only help if they're set up and tested.
Marketing & Growth appears on more Mexican profiles than Shopify Development, so check which side of the business each agency actually leads with.

Locally, nearly. The Mexican list is 31 agencies and 2 freelancers, so the real choice is between a Mexican agency and an expert from the wider regional list. An agency fits when you want launch and marketing handled together. A freelancer fits a defined fix or a single integration. Paying an agency retainer for a two-day job is the easiest way to overspend.
Usually, yes. Most profiles here list English alongside Spanish. Ask who will write your Spanish product copy and checkout text, and ask to see a page they've written for another store. If nobody on your side reads Spanish, have a native speaker review the store before launch anyway.
Yes, but know the limits first. Shopify's docs list meses sin intereses through Shopify Payments for stores based in Mexico, so a store based elsewhere shouldn't plan its Mexican pricing around it without checking. A good expert will ask where your business is registered before promising any Mexican payment options.
Place real test orders. Pay one with meses sin intereses, check the tax line on several different products, walk through the whole checkout in Spanish on a phone, and confirm the first payout arrives in pesos. If the store has a counter, ring up a sale on the POS hardware you bought.
Often, yes, as long as Spanish isn't the only qualification. Check that they've run a store paying out in MXN, that they know tax rates here are entered by hand, and that they've switched on meses sin intereses for a live client. Send them the same brief as the Mexican profiles and judge both groups on the answers.
Not necessarily. Shopify Partner is Shopify's own programme, and a shopexperts profile doesn't confirm it by itself. Ask each Mexican agency for its Shopify Partner Directory listing and check that the stores and reviews there match the work it showed you. A missing listing isn't a dealbreaker for a small job, but you should know before you sign.
