Find the Best Shopify Experts in Germany
Language won't help you choose. Of the 59 Shopify experts in Germany listed on shopexperts as of October 2026, 58 list German and 54 list English. What separates them is specialism, and for a German store the one to check first is tax set-up, not theme design.
The pool is agency-heavy: 50 agencies and 9 freelancers. Almost every profile carries store set-up and Shopify development, and most add marketing. Only eight list finance, tax and compliance work, which makes it the quickest way to narrow this page if VAT is your worry.
Shortlist by the job in front of you, not by agency size. Compare the profiles below and send the same brief to two or three that fit.

I build Shopify stores that survive $1M+ sales days, high-traffic launches, and zero-downtime requirements. Senior Shopify Developer with 8+ years of experience building, scaling, and operating high-traffic Shopify storefronts for sports, entertainment, and hospitality brands. I’ve worked on Shopify ecommerce systems for organizations including Chicago Bulls, Denver Nuggets, Michigan State Football, OKC Thunder, Call of Duty, Four Seasons Hospitality, Coco5, Forme, and others — supporting $1M+ single-day sales, $500K+ launch days, and enterprise-scale inventories exceeding $60B across North America. My expertise spans Shopify 2.0 theme builds, advanced customizations, custom app development, and performance optimization for stores where downtime, slow checkout, or failed launches are not acceptable. I also run and operate my own Shopify store, which means every engagement is approached with an operator’s mindset — prioritizing conversion, scalability, clean architecture, and long-term maintainability over shortcuts or quick fixes. Best suited for brands doing real volume — or preparing for it.

Shopify expert specializing in speed optimization, theme customization, and troubleshooting. 10+ years of experience and 10,000+ completed projects. I help stores improve performance, fix issues fast, and create clean, conversion-focused experiences.
I fix wholesale operations for coffee roasters and CPG brands on Shopify. Most wholesale runs on customer tags, spreadsheets and email reorders until it stops scaling. I set up proper company accounts with per-account pricing that applies automatically at checkout, real net terms, and a reorder flow your accounts use themselves, so your team stops hand-entering orders. Recent work: a Philadelphia-area coffee roaster moved ~40 wholesale accounts onto company pricing, with automated wholesale-versus-retail delivery rules at checkout. Another roaster runs 240+ wholesale accounts through the system we built. Typical engagement is a wholesale setup on your existing store, then ongoing support as your wholesale grows. I'm not the right fit for one-off theme work or open-ended custom builds.

Germany's 59 experts, and how to narrow them down
Agencies dominate, and that shapes your quotes. 50 of the 59 experts based in Germany are agencies. If you want one person who builds, answers your messages and invoices you directly, the nine freelancers fit that brief. If you want a project manager, a designer and a developer under one contract, the agency side gives you far more choice.
The city matters less than you'd think. Berlin comes up on more German profiles than any other city, followed by Stuttgart, Hamburg, Cologne and Munich, with others spread across the country. Unless you want workshops in your own office, pick on the work. A Hamburg retailer loses nothing by briefing a Stuttgart agency over video. Berlin also has its own page: Shopify experts in Berlin.
Broad categories won't narrow the field. Store Setup & Management appears on 58 profiles and Shopify Development on 53, so those labels tell you almost nothing. Marketing & Growth (43) and Consulting & Strategy (39) are common too. Look at the thinner ones: Design, UX & Branding (21), Copywriting & Content (19) and Finance, Taxes & Compliance (8). If your real problem is VAT or OSS, those eight profiles are your shortlist.
Beyond German and English. Five experts list Spanish, three list French and one lists Hindi. That only matters if you sell in those languages and want someone who can read the copy they're loading.
How this listing is ordered. Experts based in Germany come first. Below them sit experts from other countries who take on clients across Europe, worth a scroll if the German profiles don't match your budget or your stack.
What does it cost to hire a Shopify expert in Germany?
22 of the 59 experts based in Germany publish a starting price, so treat this as a partial picture. The figures below are in USD as of October 2026, with zero-price profiles left out. A starting price is the cheapest project an expert advertises; it isn't a quote for your store.
Middle half
$120 – $1,475
Half of the 22 German starting prices sit here
Median starting price
$440
The midpoint of what German profiles list
Top quarter of listed prices
$1,475 – $6,300
The dearest quarter of German starting prices
The spread is wide: a quarter of priced German profiles start at $120 or less, and a quarter at $1,475 or more. Use the figure to see whether an expert takes jobs your size, then judge each quote on its scope.
What moves a German quote: product and variant count, any migration from another platform, a configured theme versus custom design, and how much VAT and OSS work is in scope. Send your current platform, product count, the countries you ship to and two stores you'd like yours to resemble. Quotes built on that brief can be compared line by line.
What a German store has to settle before launch
Payments first. Shopify Payments works for German-based stores and pays out in euros. A good expert switches it on early and runs a real test order before launch, because other features depend on it. One example is Tap to Pay on iPhone and Android, which needs Shopify Payments active before Shopify POS can use it.
Tax mode is the decision that sticks. Germany falls under Shopify's EU VAT set-up. Basic Tax survives only on stores configured to collect EU tax ahead of 13 May 2026. A store set up now chooses between Shopify Tax and Manual Tax. If your accountant reports cross-border sales through the Union One-Stop Shop (OSS), Manual Tax is out, because Shopify only supports OSS with Shopify Tax or Basic Tax.
Configuring tax is not filing it. Shopify neither files nor remits EU VAT for you. Your expert sets up how tax is charged at checkout; returns stay with you and your accountant. If someone offers to "handle VAT", ask which of those two jobs they mean, or brief VAT setup experts for the configuration alone.
Retail, language and funding. Shopify runs a hardware store that sells POS kit to German merchants directly, so a shop-floor set-up can be specified and ordered in one go. The admin and checkout both run in German. Shopify Capital is also offered to eligible businesses based in Germany.
Where German profiles thin out
The rarer the category, the more it tells you about who to call.
Store Setup & Management

Shopify Development

Marketing & Growth
43 profiles; ask which channels they run day to day
Consulting & Strategy
39 profiles; useful before a replatform
Design, UX & Branding

Finance, Taxes & Compliance

Hiring a Shopify expert in Germany: common questions
Often, yes. A store selling only at home, with a small catalogue and a standard theme, doesn't need a project manager, a designer and a developer. One of the nine freelancers will usually do it with fewer handovers. Bring in an agency when you're migrating, redesigning from scratch or opening several markets at once.
Most German stores don't, at least not at launch. Plus is a bigger plan with a bigger bill, and the case for it comes from your volume and operations, not your country. Be wary of anyone who pitches it before asking about revenue, catalogue size and markets. If you suspect you've outgrown the standard plans, a Plus consultant can tell you whether the upgrade pays for itself.
For the build, no. Most experts based in Germany list English, and the Shopify admin works fine in it. For anything customers read, yes: product pages, emails, policy pages and checkout messages need a native German writer or reviewer. Some German profiles list Copywriting & Content, so you can hire that skill alongside the build rather than bolting it on after launch.
Plenty will say yes, so ask for proof. Treat it as a second project: each new market brings its own language, prices and shipping rules, and your tax settings have to suit how your accountant reports cross-border sales. Ask for a store they've taken into at least two EU countries, and plan both phases together so the German store doesn't need rebuilding later.
Four things before any design work: store access in your name, a clean product export, your VAT registration details for Germany and any other EU country you're registered in, and your shipping rules. Legal texts and returns policies should come from your lawyer, not the agency. Projects stall on missing inputs more often than on slow developers.
