A store based in Italy gets Shopify's admin and checkout in Italian and Shopify Payments payouts in euro, so the platform is rarely what slows a launch down. Choosing who builds it usually is.
As of October 2026, 38 Shopify experts in Italy are listed on shopexperts: 29 agencies and 9 freelancers. Nearly all offer store setup and Shopify development, most also sell marketing and strategy, and most work in both Italian and English. A full-service agency is the norm here rather than the exception.
Fewer than a third publish a starting price, so expect to describe your project before you see a number. Compare the Italian profiles below, which come first, and ask two or three of them for a quote.

Italian and English, with Spanish as a bonus. Italian appears on 36 profiles and English on 34, so you can brief in either. Ten list Spanish, two French and one Dutch. If Spain is your next market, a Spanish-speaking Italian team can review the translated storefront.
Rome first, then the rest of the country. Rome is the city named most often, and the other profiles are spread from Lombardy and Piedmont down to Campania and Sicily. For almost every Shopify job, sharing a city with your expert changes nothing. It matters for a boutique fit-out with POS, or for teaching shop staff to use the till.
The order of the listing. Experts based in Italy appear first. Scroll past them and the listing continues with experts based outside Italy who also take European clients, which widens the pool if nine local freelancers aren't enough.
Just 11 of the 38 experts based in Italy show a starting price. The tiles are built from those 11 prices, in USD as listed in October 2026; profiles priced at zero are left out. With a sample this small, read them as a guide rather than a market rate.

Each figure is where an Italian expert's pricing opens, not a quote for your project. Half of the priced Italian profiles start at $65 or less and a quarter at $1,745 or more, so two experts' starting prices can sit far apart. Don't shortlist on that number alone.
What sets the real price. Product and variant count, a move from another platform, Italian only or several languages, POS in a physical shop, and whether campaigns are part of the job. Ask each expert for a fixed quote against the same written brief, with the exclusions spelled out.
Shops and showrooms. A boutique in Italy can start taking card payments in person with a phone and the Shopify POS app. Italian stores get Tap to Pay with Shopify POS on iPhone and Android, as long as they use Shopify Payments. When it's time for proper kit, Shopify's own hardware store sells POS equipment to Italian merchants directly. A good Shopify POS setup expert syncs shop and online stock from day one.
Payouts in euro. Italian stores can switch on Shopify Payments, and payouts land in euro. Ask your expert to finish the Shopify Payments set-up early; a launch that waits on the payment account is a launch that slips.
VAT settings. Shopify Tax and Manual Tax are the two routes for a new Italian store. Manual Tax leaves the rates to you and can't be used for Union OSS reporting; OSS needs Shopify Tax, or Basic Tax if EU tax collection on your store predates 13 May 2026. Whichever route you take, filing and paying the VAT stay with you and your accountant, because Shopify does neither.
Italian end to end. The admin and checkout both support Italian. Staff run orders in Italian and customers check out in Italian, so the expert's language work is product data and content, not interface workarounds.

With 29 agencies and 9 freelancers based in Italy, both routes are open. An agency makes sense for a full build with design, copy and marketing, which most Italian agencies list. A freelancer suits a defined job, such as a theme fix, a small migration or an app integration, and usually means you talk directly to the person writing the code. Decide by scope, not by price.
No. Location and language are separate details on a profile, so check both. An expert outside Italy who speaks Italian can be a good fit for content and support. For POS in a physical shop or on-site staff training, someone based in Italy is easier to work with, and those experts appear first in the listing.
Ask before you sign. Only 12 of the 38 experts based in Italy list Finance, Taxes & Compliance. A good answer names the Shopify tax setting they'd use, explains why, and says what they'll hand your accountant at the end. A vague answer means you'll need a separate tax specialist alongside the build team.
You should. Thirty-two of the 38 Italian experts also sell marketing, so the agency may be the one opening your ad and analytics accounts. Make sure they're created under your business, with the agency added as a user. The same applies to the Shopify store, the domain and any custom theme code: put ownership in the contract, not in a handover email.
Yes. English appears on 34 of the 38 Italian profiles, so a brand based in another country can brief them directly. Check the expert has built for your market and not only for Italian shoppers, since payments, tax and checkout language differ by country. Ask to see one of their live stores that sells where you sell.
