Rivo loyalty work, from programme rules to custom code

Rivo can run points, tiers, referrals, memberships and cashback at the same time. Most stores shouldn't. The first job of a good expert is choosing the one or two mechanics your customers will understand and leaving the rest switched off.

Programme rules. Points per order, ways to earn beyond purchases, what each reward is worth and where VIP tiers begin. Every reward gets priced against margin before it goes live.

Referrals. The referral programme itself, plus the Refer Friends and post-purchase Refer a Friend extensions that ask a customer to share straight after ordering, when goodwill is highest.

Storefront and accounts. Designing the loyalty and referral page, theme extensions and on-site prompts. If the store adopts Rivo Accounts, that adds passwordless login, order history and the wishlist to the build.

Choosing a Rivo expert: questions that sort them

Six of the seven profiles are freelancers, so most Rivo Shopify work here is one person from brief to launch. That suits a setup or a migration. If you want monthly campaign help, ask about availability up front.

Ask which Rivo products they have set up. Points and tiers are the core. Accounts, memberships and cashback are separate products with their own setup, so if you plan to use one, ask to see a live store where they configured it.

Ask what your Shopify plan allows. A good expert tells you early what works without Plus (Thank you, Order status and account extensions) and what doesn't (redemption inside checkout).

Ask how they will check balances. For a migration, you want a plan to compare a sample of members' points before and after, and a fixed date when the old app stops awarding them.

Red flags. Promises about repeat rate or lifetime value. A proposal that turns on every module at once. A quote that assumes plan features nobody has checked against Rivo's current pricing.

Paid first task. A written points-rules document before any build: earn rates, reward values, tier thresholds and which Rivo products stay switched off. It is a small job, and it shows how they think about margin.

In-checkout redemption needs three things. Shopify Plus, checkout extensibility and the right Rivo plan; Rivo's help centre ties it to its own Plus plan. Every extension on the Information, Shipping and Payment steps (redeeming points, showing points to earn, store credit) is Plus-only.

Non-Plus stores still get plenty. Thank you, Order status and customer account extensions work on Basic and higher Shopify plans, depending on the Rivo plan and the features switched on. Those are the pages where customers check their points after buying.

Build on new customer accounts. Shopify has deprecated legacy customer accounts. Rivo works with the new ones out of the box, so account-page loyalty work should target them, not an old theme template.

POS has its own rules. Only rewards set up for POS are visible and redeemable in store. Rivo rewards can't be combined with other discounts on POS orders, and points earned for signing up can't be spent in the same transaction. Brief the shop-floor team on all three before launch.

Plan names depend on where you look. The App Store lists one set of plans; rivo.io packages Rivo differently, around cashback, accounts and a custom retention stack. Confirm which plan you are on, and what it includes, before an expert scopes anything that depends on it.

Connections. The listing names Shopify Flow, Shopify POS, Checkout and Customer accounts, and the REST API adds webhooks, so loyalty events can start work in other systems.

Is there a Rivo agency programme, and are these experts in it?

Rivo runs an Agency Partner Program and keeps an agency directory. The Rivo badge on shopexperts is separate: it shows that an expert offers Rivo work on their profile, not that Rivo has approved them. If partner status matters, ask the expert and look them up in Rivo's directory.

Do I need Rivo Accounts as well as loyalty?

Only if the customer account page is where you want loyalty to live. Rivo Accounts reworks that page with passwordless login, order history and a wishlist, so it can sit alongside the loyalty build as one project. If you just need points and a rewards page, leave it out and keep the scope small.

Should I launch points, tiers and referrals on day one?

Usually not all three. Start with points and one clear first reward, so customers learn the basic idea. Add VIP tiers once you can see who actually comes back. Referral prompts on the Thank you page can go in early, because they ask for nothing until a customer chooses to share.

Can I keep customers' points when I switch to Rivo?

Yes, if the move is planned. Tell members it is coming, stop the old app awarding points on a set date, export balances and tiers, import them, then spot-check a sample of real customers. Keep the old app readable until support stops getting balance questions.

Will Rivo's emails clash with my existing email marketing?

They can. Rivo sends automated loyalty emails of its own, and your main email platform may already cover points reminders or reward alerts. Decide which system owns each message before launch, then switch off the duplicate. Customers notice two emails about the same reward.
