Hire for Shopify in Brazil and you'll mostly be talking to agencies. Of the 25 Shopify experts in Brazil on shopexperts as of October 2026, 19 are agencies and 6 are freelancers, with São Paulo, Florianópolis, Porto Feliz and Rio de Janeiro among their home cities.
Every one of them lists both store setup and Shopify development, and 22 also offer marketing. That breadth is useful, because Shopify Payments isn't available to Brazilian stores and tax runs on Manual Tax only. A Brazilian store needs someone who will connect a third-party payment provider and set tax rates by hand, not just install a theme.

I help Shopify stores that sell personalized products with live previews, cart upsells and fast mobile pages. I'm based in Brazil (UTC−3). Since November 2023 I've worked as an in-house developer at Flavia Nasser, a Brazilian brand on Shopify Plus that sells personalized photo albums. Since March 2026 I've been the main contributor to its custom Online Store 2.0 theme, with 870+ commits on a theme of 60+ sections and blocks. There I built the personalized product pages with a live preview, the cart drawer where customers edit their personalization, a reels carousel that runs on metaobjects, landing pages and speed work. On the Plus checkout I built a gift option and a Thank-you page survey with Checkout UI extensions, plus a delivery customization with Shopify Functions. I also built an embedded admin app with Next.js, Polaris, App Bridge and the Admin GraphQL API. I can't show that store's code, so I built demo stores with fictional products to show the same kind of work in public: Arara (fashion for Brazil), Dewlane (skincare) and Nocte (fine jewelry in 3D), which are my case studies here, and Inkly, a gift shop with a live product preview. Inkly also has a private app I wrote that sends each new order to an ERP and marks it fulfilled when the tracking number comes back. Of the experts on shopexperts, 25 are based in Brazil. Nineteen are agencies and six are freelancers, so the default Brazilian hire is a team rather than one person. São Paulo, Florianópolis, Porto Feliz and Rio de Janeiro are among the home bases on their profiles.
Setup and code are a given. All 25, agencies and freelancers alike, list both Store Setup & Management and Shopify Development. You won't need to hunt for someone who can configure a store and also edit its theme code. The real question is how well, so ask for live Brazilian stores.
Most also sell growth work. Marketing & Growth appears on 22 profiles, Design, UX & Branding on 16, Consulting & Strategy on 14 and Copywriting & Content on 13. With that much growth work on offer, decide before the first call whether you want ongoing help or just a launch.
Tax help is scarce. Only 3 profiles list Finance, Taxes & Compliance. Brazilian stores set tax rates manually on Shopify, so find out early who on the expert's side owns that work.
English nearly everywhere, Spanish on most. English appears on 24 profiles and Spanish on 15, with French on 1. Briefing in English works with almost anyone on the list.
Reading the listing. Brazilian profiles are listed first. Scroll past them and you'll reach people based outside Brazil who take on Latin American merchants, worth a look when you want a specialist the Brazilian profiles don't cover.
Most Brazilian stores should start with the local profiles. The hard parts of a Brazilian set-up — the payment provider and manual tax — reward someone who has already done them for other stores in the country.
Stay local when you sell mainly inside Brazil, want a contract with a Brazilian business, or need someone who can come to a physical shop to set up POS hardware and train staff.
Look at the regional list when you need a narrow skill the local bench is thin on. Tax and compliance is the obvious one. The same goes for a store selling across several Latin American countries, where one expert who already works across the region can save you two separate hires.
Mixing is fine. A Brazilian agency for the build plus a separate specialist for one job is a sensible split. Make one of them responsible for the store as a whole, or problems fall into the gap between the two.
Shortlist on evidence. Ask each candidate for a live Brazilian store they built and the name of whoever will actually do your work. With 19 agencies on the local list, that last question matters: the person who pitches is often not the person who builds.
For a store based in Brazil, Shopify automates less of the set-up than many merchants expect. Four areas fall to your expert.
Payments. Shopify Payments doesn't operate in Brazil. Shopify points Brazilian stores to third-party payment providers, so choosing one, connecting it and testing real orders in Brazilian reais (BRL) is part of the build. Ask which provider the expert has connected most often for Brazilian stores, and why.
Tax. Brazilian stores get Manual Tax only, without Shopify Tax or Basic Tax as alternatives, so the rates in your admin are whatever someone enters, or whatever a third-party tax app manages for you. Your accountant decides the rates; your expert's job is putting them in correctly. Given how few local profiles list tax work, a tax setup specialist may be worth a separate brief.
Language. Here Brazil is easy. Portuguese (Brazil) is supported on both sides of Shopify, admin and checkout, so nobody on your staff or among your shoppers needs a workaround. The expert's job is making sure theme text, notification emails and policies match it.
Point of sale. You can't order POS kit from Shopify's hardware store for delivery in Brazil. Brazilian merchants buy supported POS equipment through other retailers, so if you're opening a shop or a pop-up, have the expert confirm each device works with Shopify POS before you buy.

Most Brazil-based profiles don't show a starting price, so there's no range here yet. With marketing on 22 of the 25 profiles, the bigger risk is a quote that blends build and retainer. Ask each expert to price the build separately from any monthly fees. Otherwise you can't tell a cheap build with an expensive retainer from the reverse.
With 19 agencies and 6 freelancers based here, you have both. A freelancer suits a contained job: a theme change, a payment provider connection, a catalogue clean-up. An agency suits a launch that combines design, development, payments and marketing, because it can staff all four at once. Don't pay agency rates for a one-person job.
It's a realistic ask: Spanish appears on 15 of the 25 Brazil-based profiles, so you don't have to leave Brazil to find it. Treat it as its own workstream, covering theme text, product content and notification emails, plus a check that your payment provider accepts buyers in the countries you're targeting. Ask for a live Spanish-language store first, and have a native speaker read it.
You, always. Every account, from Shopify itself to the domain and the payment provider, should be opened by your company, with the agency added as staff. Agencies sometimes offer to set everything up under their own login to save time. Say no. If you ever change agency, you want to remove one staff account, not negotiate for your own store.
Three things save the most time: an approved account with your chosen payment provider, tax rates confirmed by your accountant, and a spreadsheet of your products. With those, an expert can quote a fixed price. Without them, expect an hourly estimate and a vaguer timeline, because the expert can't see how much of the work is waiting on you.
