Find the Best Shopify Experts in Panama
Panama hands a Shopify store a currency decision most countries don't. The balboa is the official unit, but the US dollar is also legal tender and used for banknotes, so decide early which currency your store prices in and check that your payment provider settles in it.
That provider will be a third-party one, because Shopify Payments doesn't cover Panama. Getting both choices right is the first job for Shopify experts in Panama, and the one that's hardest to undo later.
As of October 2026, 3 experts on shopexperts are based in Panama: 2 agencies and 1 freelancer, all in Panama City. All three list Shopify development and store setup, and all three work in Spanish and English.
Three profiles are quick to read. Start with them below, then widen the search if none fits the job.

Three experts in Panama City, and what they cover
A short list by any measure. Two agencies and one freelancer, all in Panama City, make up the local list. A three-name shortlist has one advantage: you can speak to everyone before deciding. It carries one risk too. If the freelancer is booked, your only local choices are agencies.
All three build and set up stores. Every Panama-based profile lists Shopify Development and Store Setup & Management. Beyond that, Technical Support & Maintenance, Design, UX & Branding and Consulting & Strategy each appear on just one profile. A new build is well covered locally; anything more specialised depends on one person's calendar.
Spanish and English on every profile. All three list both languages. Brief in whichever one your team uses day to day, and ask for handover notes in the same language so whoever maintains the store later can read them.
Small numbers, real consequences. With three local experts, one holiday or one big client can empty the shortlist for weeks. If your launch date is fixed, contact all three in the same week and keep a regional option warm, such as an expert from the Colombia or Mexico pages linked below.
Reading the listing. Panama City's three come first. Scroll past them for remote experts who take Latin American clients; that's the place to find marketing help or a second freelancer quote.
When three local experts are enough, and when to look across the region
With three local experts, the question isn't which one. It's whether one of them can do the whole job.
Stay local for the build. A new store, a theme rebuild or a move to Shopify sits within what all three Panama-based profiles list. Ask each candidate how they've handled store currency for other clients; the answer shows whether they've thought about it. Ask the one profile that lists support whether it also maintains stores it didn't build.
Look regionally for growth work. None of the three lists Marketing & Growth. If the brief includes ads, email or SEO after launch, hire a Latin American marketing specialist from further down the listing and make the build team hand over cleanly to them.
Run a paid trial with two of them. Ask two Panama-based experts to quote the same small job, such as setting your payment provider up on a sandbox store and running test orders through it. Notice the questions they ask before quoting. The one who raises currency, tax and refunds first is usually the one to hire.
Balboas, dollars and manual tax: setting up a Panamanian store
Currency comes first. Panama's official currency is the balboa (PAB), and the US dollar (USD) is also legal tender and used for banknotes. Your expert should settle which currency the store displays and which one your payment provider pays out in before importing a single price, because changing it after products are live means checking every price again.
A third-party payment provider. Panama isn't one of the Shopify Payments countries, so a third-party provider handles checkout. A good expert asks what your customers expect to pay with, shortlists providers that support it in your chosen currency, and runs real test transactions, including a refund, before launch.
Tax rates you enter yourself. Shopify supports Manual Tax only for Panama. With no Shopify Tax or Basic Tax, the store charges whatever rates are entered and never updates them. The rates should come from your accountant; your expert's job is entering them correctly, checking totals on test orders and flagging when a third-party tax app would save you the upkeep.
Point-of-sale hardware. Panamanian addresses aren't served by Shopify's hardware store. For a shop counter or market stall, buy supported hardware from a third-party retailer once your expert confirms each model works with Shopify POS.
Spanish throughout. Spanish is supported in both the Shopify admin and checkout. Staff can manage orders in Spanish and customers check out in Spanish; your expert should translate any custom checkout text and edited order emails to match.
One shared core, three single specialisms
Every Panama-based profile covers the build. Each of the other three categories appears on one profile only:
Shopify Development
Every one of the three lists it: theme and integration work
Store Setup & Management
Likewise universal here, from first configuration to routine admin
Technical Support & Maintenance
Listed by 1, the local option for help after launch
Design, UX & Branding
Listed by 1, for a store whose look still needs work
Consulting & Strategy
Listed by 1, for planning before you commit a budget
Hiring in Panama: questions on cost, support and currency
Match the hire to the shape of the work. A freelancer suits a defined job with one owner, such as a theme change or a payment provider connection. An agency suits a launch spanning design, build and set-up, where you want someone coordinating. With one freelancer based in Panama, ask about availability in your first message and keep an agency quote in hand in case the timing doesn't work.
Ask before you sign, because it isn't automatic. Only one Panama-based profile lists Technical Support & Maintenance; the others list development and set-up. Some build teams sell a block of support hours after launch, others hand over and move on. Get it in writing: hours per month, response time for a broken checkout, and who keeps apps and the theme current. Otherwise, post-launch fixes arrive as new quotes.
Not for online work, which happens in the Shopify admin and over video calls. Shared working hours and a clear owner on your side matter more. Being local does help if you also sell from a physical shop, because POS hardware must be bought from an outside retailer and someone has to test it at the counter before opening day.
Budget from scope, not from a headline rate. List your product count, pages, apps, payment provider and any migration, then ask each expert for a fixed price against that list. Because both balboas and dollars are in use, ask everyone to quote in the same currency. Then compare what each quote covers after launch, not just the headline figure.
Five lines cover most of it: what you sell and how many products, which currency you'll price in, the provider you've picked or need advice on, any in-person selling, and your launch date. Add links to two stores you like and one you don't. Our guide on how to hire a Shopify expert covers the rest.
