Envy, Flow and Capital jobs that need a developer
Eight Themes documents a lot in its help center, from size guides and mega menus to pre-order and gift wrapping. Paid work starts where the code does.
Carrying code into a new Envy version. An update from the admin copies content, settings, sections and templates, but custom code has to be moved across by hand and app snippets may need adding back. Eight's support can't help with that transfer.
Rebuilds when the update notice is missing. Custom code or certain apps can stop the admin update from appearing. The fallback is a blank copy from the Theme Store, with the storefront, media and settings rebuilt before publishing.
Moving onto the Flow relaunch. Flow 42.0.0, from July 2026, brought a new color scheme system, a full-screen product hero and nutrition and specification sections driven by metafields. An older Flow store needs its product data mapped into those fields.
Code left behind by old apps. Eight notes that uninstalling an app doesn't necessarily remove what it added to the theme. Cleaning that out, and moving widgets to app blocks, is developer work.
Speed, SEO and CRO. Eight sends all three to outside experts. Speed optimization experts measure what each app and image costs before touching theme files.
Settings questions go to Eight first. Its team answers configuration questions by ticket, Monday to Thursday 9am to 5pm GMT and until 4pm on Fridays.
Choosing an Eight Themes developer: what good answers sound like
Envy is on version 36 and Flow on 42, so updates come often. Hire for the next update, not only the first edit.
"Where will my CSS and code live?" Eight points style edits to the custom.css file under Assets. A candidate who keeps CSS there and builds features as their own sections leaves less to move by hand later.
"Do you work on a duplicate?" Eight strongly recommends duplicating the working theme before any code change. Anyone happy to edit the live theme without a copy fails the first test.
"Which Eight theme have you built on?" Capital is pitched at product-led brands and Flow at wellness, skincare and food stores. Hands-on time with your theme shortens the job.
Grounds for a no. A promised speed score, a rebuild quoted for something a preset already does, or no plan for app code left in the theme.
One paid task to start. A single section or fix on a duplicate, delivered with a preview link and a note of every file changed. Our guide to hiring a Shopify expert covers the rest of the process, and theme customization experts take on longer edit lists.
Envy theme Shopify updates, refunds and support limits
No refunds. Eight Themes doesn't refund theme purchases and points buyers to demos and previews first. Its help center has a theme trial checklist for that stage.
Two update routes. When a new version is out, a notice under the theme name lets you add it to the theme library without changing the live theme. If the notice never shows, a blank Theme Store copy carries nothing over, so the storefront is rebuilt and relinked by hand.
Combined listings are a Plus feature. Envy, Flow and Capital all list combined listings, and the Theme Store marks them Shopify Plus only.
Five built-in languages. Each theme ships English, French, Italian, German and Spanish translations. Eight's help center has a separate guide for right-to-left languages.
Check the feature list before commissioning. Envy already lists gift wrapping, an age verifier, back-in-stock alerts, image hotspots and a before/after slider. Flow adds ingredients or nutritional information.
Ticket support only. There is no phone or video support. Eight aims to reply within 24 hours but asks for up to two working days.

Eight Themes Shopify FAQ: Envy, Flow and Capital
As of October 2026, Envy costs $320 on the Shopify Theme Store, the same as Flow and Capital. Eight Themes doesn't refund theme purchases, so try the demo and previews first. Developer time is separate: all 21 badge holders list a starting price, from $65 to $5,000, and our theme customization cost guide explains the main price drivers.
No. An update from the admin copies content, settings, sections and templates, but custom code has to be transferred to the new version and app snippets may need adding back. Eight's support can't help with that step and suggests a coding specialist, so keep a list of every file you or a developer changed.
No. Its support covers built-in features, settings and bugs in an unmodified theme, and it doesn't write custom features or give one-to-one help with code. Eight's help center names shopexperts as one of its recommended partners for development work.
Flow 42.0.0, released in July 2026, added a new color scheme system, a full-screen product hero, nutrition and specification sections driven by metafields, and a refreshed product page and cart. Stores moving up from an older Flow version should plan time to fill those metafields and recheck any custom code.
Yes, if it edited theme code. Eight notes that uninstalling an app doesn't necessarily remove that code, while modern apps use app blocks that leave theme files alone. Eight sends app conflicts to the app developer, so a theme expert is the person to clean up leftovers.
