Find the Best Shopify Experts in Austria
Six. As of October 2026, that's how many Shopify experts in Austria are listed on shopexperts: one freelancer and five agencies, all working in German and English, with Vienna ahead of the other cities on their profiles.
A small bench has an upside. Every one of them lists Shopify development, store set-up, consulting and marketing, so you're choosing between full-service teams rather than sorting specialists from generalists. The trade-off is depth: if none of the six fits your budget or timing, the experts from other countries listed after them are the next stop.
For an Austrian store, local knowledge counts most in two places: EPS at checkout and sourcing POS hardware. Read the six profiles with those in mind, then request a quote from the one or two that have built stores like yours.
Top-rated Shopify experts in Austria

Shopify stores that earn their keep. I run Graftstudio, the technical and commercial lead for mid-market DTC brands on Shopify Plus. Brands bring me in when the store has outgrown the people who set it up. I find what it's costing, fix what the numbers say pays, and measure every change. In 15+ years I have partnered with over 160 brands that generate £80m in sales across their stores. Cult Gaia, Victoria Beckham, Gymshark, Seafolly and Ireland's largest salon group among them. I'm a Shopify Plus Partner, and three in four brands come back. I take on a small number of brands at a time, offering audits, fix sprints and fractional store ownership.

I'm Phil, founder of Candystore Studio, a Shopify studio. I've spent over 12 years building for the web and the last 6 on Shopify, including work for brands such as BrewDog, Hoodrich, Ooni and Vuse UK. Most of my work now is keeping Shopify stores working, secure and lean as brands do more themselves with AI tools and native Shopify features. Building a section with Sidekick or ChatGPT takes an afternoon. What takes the time is everything after: code that breaks on the next theme update, apps nobody remembers installing, scripts left behind by old apps, tracking that quietly stops. That is the part I take off your plate. In practice that means auditing what is installed and who has access, repairing and documenting AI-generated code, replacing single-job apps with native Shopify features or clean theme code, and monthly care for brands that want an expert watching the store. My core stack is Liquid and Online Store 2.0, JavaScript and TypeScript, and I work regularly with Klaviyo, Recharge, Rebuy, Algolia and Judge.me. When a project needs design or branding, Candystore's design team works alongside me. Every engagement starts with a fixed-price review and a written report you can act on with me or anyone else. Work happens on a duplicate theme and goes live only after your sign-off.
With over eight years of experience as a full-stack Shopify developer, I translate complex technical concepts into user-friendly features that are built on scalable and reliable code. With a strong eye for design and focus on conversions, I create storefronts that look great and perform. If you're seeking a collaborator who values performance and long-term partnerships, let's talk. What I do: Custom features & theme development Convert Figma designs to responsive storefronts Custom apps, APIs, and system integrations UX/conversion improvements I specialize in: Bundle builders Cart drawers, Upsells Complex Metafield/Metaobjects implementations Subscriptions optimizations Section rendering API and ajax
Rising Commerce is a Shopify practice led by David Martel, a Shopify Partner since February 2017. Dave has spent more than ten years on the platform, across theme development, app integrations, migrations, performance, and the fixes that keep a live store selling. We help merchants turn a Shopify store into a faster, clearer, easier business to run. The work covers new builds and redesigns, theme customization, migrations onto Shopify, site speed, and ongoing care. Most of that work is in clothing and fashion, food and drink, health and beauty, and jewelry. You work directly with Dave. The published response time is 30 minutes, and clients on both Shopify Partners and Shopexperts describe the same pattern: a clear reply, a careful fix, and someone who is still there the next time something breaks.

I move stores from WooCommerce to Shopify and keep everything that matters: the catalog, the full order and customer history, discounts, content, and search rankings. These migrations are where WordPress depth and Shopify depth both pay off, and I have both. Years as a freelance WordPress developer, then years building on Shopify, including themes on the Shopify Theme Store trusted by 800+ stores. The hard part isn't exporting data, it's landing it in the right Shopify structure: orders that reconcile to the cent, refunds, guest customers, data buried in WooCommerce plugins, and redirects that protect your SEO. I build a custom import pipeline per store, validate it before go-live, and reconcile against the source when it's done, then set up payments, shipping, taxes, Markets, and languages so you launch a store that's actually ready. I can take the whole move to launch from payments, shipping and carrier setup, taxes, Shopify Markets and multiple languages, theme setup and customization, to the cutover itself and stick around afterward for the theme work, conversion improvements, and maintenance that follow. Happy to talk through your store and scope the move.
Who is based in Austria, and how to read a six-name list
Five agencies and one freelancer. If you want a single person on your project, there is exactly one freelancer based in Austria on shopexperts. Everyone else is an agency, which suits a full build or a replatform better than a quick fix.
Vienna, mostly. More Austrian profiles name Vienna than anywhere else, so meeting in person is easy if you're there too. For a store elsewhere in the country it changes little: set-up, theme work and training mostly happen over screen shares anyway.
German and English on every profile. All six list both, and one adds Spanish. Language won't be the deciding factor whichever you pick.
Full-service by default. All six, the freelancer included, cover development, set-up, consulting and marketing. Five add design. The gaps show further down: three list Copywriting & Content and only two list Finance, Taxes & Compliance. If your brief leans on product copy or tax configuration, those smaller groups are where to look first.
What a six-strong pool means for you. You can read every Austrian profile in one sitting. Because the categories barely differ, shortlist on the stores each one has actually built: catalogue size, sector and whether any sell in a physical shop as well as online.
What sits below the Austrian profiles. The listing starts with the six experts based in Austria, then moves on to experts based outside Austria who work with European merchants. With six local options, expect to read both parts.
When to look past the six Austrian profiles
Stay local when the work touches the shop floor. If you run a physical shop in Austria, someone nearby can visit, check your POS set-up on site and train staff in person. That matters far more for retail than for an online-only store.
Look wider when you need a specialist. All six Austrian profiles list the same four core categories, and only two list tax work. For a complex VAT project or a migration with years of order history, pairing a local agency with a specialist based abroad is a sensible split.
German-speaking doesn't have to mean Austrian. If your storefront is in German, the language bar is easy to clear from next door, and the Shopify experts in Germany page is the obvious second pool. The language carries over; the payment and hardware set-up doesn't.
Run the same brief past both groups. Send one Austrian agency and one expert from the wider list the same brief, then compare how each scopes it. Their answers to "what would you leave out?" tell you more than the totals.
What an Austrian Shopify set-up needs from your expert
Payments and EPS. Austrian stores can use Shopify Payments, with payouts in euros. Shopify's documentation lists EPS (Electronic Payment Standard) as a local payment method available through it. A good expert switches EPS on during set-up and checks it at checkout, rather than leaving it as a post-launch task.
POS hardware takes planning. Shopify's hardware store is off the table for Austrian addresses, since it doesn't deliver here. Shopify tells Austrian merchants to buy compatible kit from outside retailers, which puts the onus on your expert to check every device against Shopify's supported list before you order. Buy the wrong model and you find out at the till.
Tax under the EU set-up. Austria uses Shopify's EU VAT configuration. You can run Shopify Tax or fall back on Manual Tax, while Basic Tax belongs only to stores set up for EU tax collection before the 13 May 2026 cut-off. Selling into Germany or other EU countries and reporting through the Union One-Stop Shop? Shopify supports OSS only with Shopify Tax or Basic Tax. A new store on Manual Tax can't use it.
The return is still yours. Shopify doesn't submit or pay EU VAT on your behalf. Your expert configures the settings; your tax adviser files.
German throughout. Both the Shopify admin and the checkout support German, so staff and customers can work in it end to end.

Shopify experts in Austria: questions before you hire
It depends how many skills your project needs at once. A freelancer suits a defined job: a theme adjustment, a payment set-up, a speed fix. A new store with design, build, copy and launch marketing needs several people, which is what the five agencies offer. Austria's one freelancer can't take every job, so freelancers based in other countries appear further down the listing.
You can, as long as they build it as an Austrian store rather than a copy of a German one. Two things differ straight away. EPS is the local payment method Shopify lists for Austria, and Shopify's hardware store, which sells to German merchants, doesn't deliver here. Ask whether they've launched a store for Austrian customers and how they handled both. Vague answers are your signal to keep looking.
Pay for a small, contained job first: an audit of your current store, or setting up EPS and tax settings on a development store. It shows you how they communicate, how they estimate and how they handle deadlines. A good agency will quote a scoped first task without pushing you into a retainer.
Not with Tap to Pay. As of October 2026, Shopify's Tap to Pay pages list Germany and Switzerland but not Austria, so an Austrian counter needs a supported card reader. Shopify's hardware store doesn't deliver here either, which means buying from a third-party retailer. Ask your expert to confirm the exact model works with Shopify POS before you order, and to run a test sale before opening day.
Not necessarily. The label tells you a profile offers development, not who does it. Ask whether code is written in-house or subcontracted, who your developer will be, and to see something they built that goes beyond theme settings. For a store that only needs configuration, it matters less; for custom sections or integrations, it decides the outcome.
