Find the Right Shopify Consultant
Most people looking for a Shopify consultant have one decision in front of them: whether to move to Plus, open a wholesale channel, launch in a second country or cut back an app stack nobody planned. The right hire depends on which of those it is.
This page lists all 781 experts on shopexperts who offer consulting and strategy work (September 2026). If your question is specific, a specialist page gets you there faster. Ecommerce and business strategy handles growth plans and priorities, Shopify Plus consulting handles the upgrade decision and Plus architecture, and wholesale and B2B, international expansion, and product development and sourcing each have a page of their own.
Consulting means advice and scoping. Building what gets recommended is a separate job for developers and agencies, even when one firm offers both. Browse the full list below, or go straight to the specialist that matches your decision.

How to choose a Shopify store consultant
Write the decision as a question with a date. "Should we open wholesale accounts before next spring?" gets you proposals you can compare. "Help us grow" gets you three different engagements at three different prices, and if you can't phrase the question yet, a short paid call to shape it is the right first purchase.
Hire for the decision, not the job title. Anyone can call themselves a consultant. Someone sharp on paid acquisition may know little about trade terms, and a Plus architect may never have built a margin model, so use a specialist page when the question sits in one area and this full list when it spans several.
Ask what a past client decided. Workshops run and decks delivered describe effort, not value, so ask for the question, the recommendation and whether the client acted on it. A consultant worth hiring can also describe advice a client turned down, and why.
Name who will carry out the answer. A recommendation to change your fulfilment model goes nowhere if your operations lead never met the consultant. List the people who will act on the plan and make sure the consultant talks to them during the work, not after it.
Fix the finish line in the proposal. It should state the output (a written recommendation, a working session or a costed plan), the date it arrives and what counts as done. Ongoing advice should say how often you meet and what you receive each month.
Treat an early retainer as a warning. A consultant who proposes monthly fees before the first piece of work, gives firm answers before seeing a single report, or talks about other brands' results instead of asking about yours is selling a relationship, not an answer.
Match the decision to the right specialist
Most consulting questions sit inside one specialism. Start from the decision you're facing:
- A growth plan and priorities for the next few quarters: ecommerce and business strategy.
- Whether to move to Plus, or how to structure a Plus build: Shopify Plus consulting.
- Selling to trade buyers on account: wholesale and B2B.
- Opening a new country: international expansion strategy.
- A new product line or a change of supplier: product development and sourcing.
- Too many apps and systems that nobody chose on purpose: technology and app stack strategy.
- Senior ownership of ecommerce without a full-time hire: fractional ecommerce leadership.
Some decisions cross two lines, and the brief should say so. Wholesale buyers in a second country raise B2B and expansion questions at once, and customising the storefront and checkout for a B2B market needs the Advanced or Plus plan, so the platform question comes up too.
Consultant or agency? A consultant decides and scopes, and an agency builds, so the consultant's output should be a recommendation plus a brief another team could price. When one firm offers both, ask them to price the advice as its own piece of work, so you can take the plan to other builders if their build quote doesn't suit.
Buying the build before the decision is the costly order to get wrong: you pay for a well-made version of the wrong thing.
How much does Shopify consulting cost?
Consulting is priced by the size of the question more than by the hour, so the ranges are wide. The tiles show typical ranges for the three main kinds of consulting work, taken from our guide to Shopify expert costs:
Strategy consulting
$500 – $15,000
From a one-off review to a full project
Fractional leadership
$3,000 – $15,000
Per month, part-time senior lead
Plus implementation consulting
$5,000 – $50,000+
Platform and architecture decisions
The directory gives a lower anchor. Across the 47 claimed consultant profiles on shopexperts (September 2026), the median published starting price is $680 and the spread runs from $55 to $10,000. A starting price usually buys a call or a narrow review, not a strategy project.
Three things move the figure: how many parts of the business the question touches, how much cleaning your data needs before anyone can analyse it, and whether the consultant stays involved while the plan is carried out. Plus work sits at the top because those decisions shape your architecture for years.
For a quote, send the decision you need made, the date you need it by, and last year's sales reports by month.

Frequently asked questions about Shopify consulting
Neither wins by default. Firms do outnumber individuals here, three to one among the first 100 consultant listings on shopexperts (75 agencies, 25 freelancers, September 2026). A firm can put a finance specialist and a platform specialist on the same question, and someone covers when a person is away. A freelancer gives you one senior person from first call to final recommendation. Choose by how many disciplines the decision touches, not by the size of the team.
An audit examines the store: where shoppers drop out, which pages and apps slow it down, whether the tracking can be trusted. A consultant helps you decide what to do with the business: which channel, which market, which plan. If sales are falling and nobody knows why, start with an audit. If the facts are clear and the team can't agree on a direction, that's a consulting question.
Not for most strategy work, which runs on calls and shared documents. What matters is experience with your customers' market, because tax, shipping costs, payment habits and seasonality differ by country. Among the first 100 listings on shopexperts (September 2026), 47 are in the United States, 15 in the United Kingdom, 6 in Canada and 5 in Australia. For a new-market decision, look for someone who knows the market you're entering, not only the one you're in.
Yes, and for a narrow question it's often the right format. A single session works when you bring the data and a specific choice, such as whether to accept a large retailer's payment terms or which market to test first. It won't answer questions that need someone to work through a year of reports. Ask for a short written summary afterwards, so the advice outlives the call.
You should have something a builder could quote from: the decision, the reasoning behind it and a scoped list of work. Some consultants will also review build quotes against that scope or check progress a few weeks in. Both are worth considering, because plans drift once execution starts. If nobody is lined up to act on the recommendation, hold off on commissioning more advice.
