Plus earns its place when the business needs something only Plus can do. The capabilities that change how a store actually runs:
- Checkout UI extensions in the three steps before an order is placed: information, shipping and payment.
- Custom apps that run Shopify Functions, for discount, shipping or payment rules only your business needs. Functions delivered through public apps run on any plan.
- B2B beyond the basics: unlimited catalogues, catalogues assigned directly to companies and locations, deposits, partial payments and payment requests per fulfilment.
- Expansion stores, for regions or brands that need a store of their own.
- Launchpad, for scheduling sales events.
Several things that once pushed brands onto Plus now come with Basic, Grow and Advanced: B2B basics (companies and locations, net terms, quantity rules and up to three active catalogues), Shopify Markets for countries, currencies, languages and domains, and Shopify Flow. If every requirement on your list sits in that group, a good consultant will say so.
Old Script logic needs rebuilding. Since 30 June 2026 Scripts no longer run at all, and Functions are their replacement. Whatever your Scripts handled, from tag-based discounts to hiding delivery options by region, now has to run on Functions, through a public app, Shopify's native discounts or a custom app from a Functions developer, and the consultant should inventory that logic before the build is quoted.
Settle independence at the start. The consultant who scopes the build should tell you up front whether they'll bid for it. Either answer can work; finding out after the scope has been written around their own team's strengths doesn't.
