The shopexperts Score: How We Rate Expert Trust and Verification

8 min read
6 Aug, 2026

The shopexperts Score is a 0–100 confidence rating shown on every expert profile. It measures how much of an expert's reputation is independently verifiable, not just how happy past clients were. Points come from twelve signals across two groups: Trust Signals (public proof, worth up to 60 points) and Verification Signals (submitted proof, worth up to 40 points). The score updates automatically and carries a confidence label, so brands can hire with proof behind the number and experts get credit for the reputation they've earned.

AI Summary

The shopexperts Score is a 0–100 rating on every expert profile measuring how much of an expert's reputation is verifiable. It combines Trust Signals (public proof, max 60 pts: website +15, marketplace listing +15, 20 reviews +10, 4.8+ rating +10, 3 years in business +10) and Verification Signals (submitted proof, max 40 pts: profile claimed +10, LinkedIn verified +5, 10 on-platform reviews +5, 4.8 rating +5, 3 case studies +5, 3 services +5, updated in last 30 days +5). Each score carries a confidence label (High, Moderate, Building). Claiming a profile unlocks all Verification Signals and is worth 10 points.

What the shopexperts Score is

The shopexperts Score is our internal confidence rating for every expert on the platform. It sits alongside reviews and star ratings, but it answers a different question. A star rating tells you how happy past clients were. The shopexperts Score tells you how much of an expert's reputation can actually be verified — how deep and how current the proof is.

Think of it as a background check that runs continuously. Instead of one glowing testimonial, the score rewards a pattern of independent, checkable evidence: a real website, a live marketplace presence, a track record, a claimed and verified profile, case studies, and recent activity. The more of that an expert can show, the higher the score.

The score is built from twelve signals across two groups — Trust Signals and Verification Signals — that add up to a maximum of 100 points.

The core idea: Reviews tell you about the outcome of one project. The shopexperts Score tells you how much proof exists across an expert's whole presence. Used together, they give brands a fuller, harder-to-fake picture.

The two kinds of signals

Every point in the score comes from one of two categories. Understanding the difference explains why two experts with similar reviews can land on very different scores.

Trust Signals (public)

Public proof points that anyone can verify from the outside — a live website, a marketplace listing, visible reviews, years in business. These are counted automatically, whether or not the expert has claimed their profile.

Verification Signals (submitted)

Points that unlock only when an expert claims their listing and submits each artifact — a verified LinkedIn, case studies, defined services, and recent updates. This is the expert vouching for themselves with evidence we can check.

Trust Signals are worth up to 60 points and Verification Signals up to 40 points. A strong score needs both: real outside proof and an expert who has stepped forward to verify and maintain their profile.

How the points break down

The score adds up to 100 points across twelve signals. Here is exactly what each one is worth.

Trust Signals (max 60)

SignalPoints
Freelancer website — a live, working website for the expert or their business+15
Marketplace listing — an active presence on a recognized freelance or agency marketplace+15
20 customer reviews — a meaningful volume of public reviews, not just a handful+10
4.8+ average rating — a high public rating across those reviews+10
3 years in business — a demonstrable track record over time+10

Verification Signals (max 40)

SignalPoints
shopexperts profile claimed — the gateway that unlocks the rest of this group+10
LinkedIn verified — a confirmed LinkedIn identity tied to the profile+5
10 shopexperts customer reviews — reviews collected directly on shopexperts+5
4.8 average rating — a high average across those on-platform reviews+5
3 case studies — documented examples of real work and results+5
3 services — clearly defined services the expert offers+5
Listing updated in last 30 days — recent activity showing the profile is actively maintained+5

Totals: 60 + 40 = 100 points. A profile can show its progress at any time (for example, "11 of 12 signals"), making it clear exactly which proof points are earned and which are still open.

Confidence levels

Next to the number, every score carries a confidence label. Confidence reflects how much of the score is backed by verified, current evidence rather than the raw number alone. A high score built mostly on claimed-and-submitted verification, recent activity, and on-platform reviews carries more confidence than the same number resting on thinner proof.

High Confidence. Strong proof across both signal groups. The profile is claimed, verified, and recently maintained — the number is well supported.

Moderate Confidence. Solid public trust signals, but some verification is still missing or the listing hasn't been updated recently. The score is reasonable but not fully corroborated.

Building / Lower Confidence. Limited verifiable evidence so far — often an unclaimed profile or few submitted artifacts. Treat the number as an early read that will firm up as proof is added.

The exact label shown always reflects the live state of the profile, so it can move up as an expert adds verification or as public signals change.

For experts: how to raise your score

Your score isn't fixed — it's a scoreboard for the reputation work you're already doing. Here's the fastest path to a higher, higher-confidence number:

  • Claim your profile first. This single step is worth 10 points on its own and unlocks every other Verification Signal. Nothing else in that group counts until you do.
  • Verify your LinkedIn. A quick, high-signal confirmation of who you are.
  • Collect reviews on shopexperts. On-platform reviews are worth more than imported ones because we can verify them directly. Ask recent clients to leave one here.
  • Add at least three case studies. Show real work and outcomes — these carry weight with brands as well as points.
  • Define your services clearly. List at least three so brands know exactly what you offer.
  • Keep your listing fresh. Update it at least once every 30 days to earn (and keep) the recency points and hold your confidence level high.
  • Strengthen your public footprint. A live website, an active marketplace listing, a healthy review volume and rating, and years in business all feed your Trust Signals.

Quick win: If you do only one thing today, claim your profile. It's the highest-value single action and it opens up the other 30 verification points.

For brands: how to read the score

The shopexperts Score is designed to make your shortlisting faster and safer. Here's how to use it well:

  • Read the score and the confidence label together. A 90 at High Confidence is a fundamentally stronger signal than a 90 that's still building — the label tells you how much to trust the number.
  • Use it alongside reviews, not instead of them. The score measures depth and verifiability of proof; reviews measure client satisfaction. You want both pointing the same direction.
  • Open the signals breakdown. The number is a summary; the breakdown shows exactly why. If verification matters most to you, look for a claimed profile, verified LinkedIn, case studies, and recent updates.
  • Don't over-penalize a new profile. A lower or still-building score can simply mean an expert hasn't finished claiming and submitting proof yet — not that they do poor work. The breakdown helps you tell the difference.
  • Treat it as one input in your decision. The score narrows the field and flags who has done the work to prove themselves; your conversation and their portfolio close the deal.

Speed & Performance Specialist for Shopify Stores - and the measurement behind your revenue

I helped an apparel brand cut product-page load time from 15.4 seconds to 7.4 seconds - five weeks before Black Friday. That's what I do: I find what's slowing your store down and fix it.

The same work keeps surfacing a second problem: stores where the numbers are broken. Pixels firing twice and double-counting conversions. Ad campaigns spending across the whole catalog with no filter on what actually earns. Apps billing every month for work nobody has measured. So alongside speed, I measure what your money - ad spend, apps, tracking - is actually doing, instead of trusting what the platforms and vendors report. Then I fix what the measurement finds.

I specialize in Shopify speed optimization, Core Web Vitals, ad-spend and tracking measurement, and sales-channel recovery for established, founder-run stores. I treat speed and ad spend the same way: as revenue problems, not technical checkboxes.

What I work on:

  • Speed audits and Core Web Vitals optimization

  • Ad-spend clarity - which products earn your Google/Meta budget, measured per product

  • Meta Pixel and GA4 tracking setup, audits, and double-counting fixes

  • App and tool bill audits - is each paid app earning what it charges? Where a paid app is doing what Shopify Flow already does natively, I replace it with a built-in workflow, including the multi-step logic that prompt-built automations get wrong

  • Sales-channel recovery - when your products stop showing in Google Shopping or on Meta, finding why the catalog fell out (feed disapprovals, a dropped channel connection, market or policy misconfiguration) and getting them back in front of shoppers - verified on the storefront a shopper sees, not a green light in a dashboard

  • Server-side tracking and attribution contamination fixes

  • Ongoing monitoring and technical support - monthly Store Care across speed, tracking, apps and channels, or a support pack of hours

Key results:

  • Product-page load time cut from 15.4s to 7.4s - 52% faster

  • Mobile PageSpeed on product pages from 18 to 28 - with the client's chosen app stack kept in place, at their call

  • Two apps billing to track what the store's own Google channel already handled - removed, tracking verified clean, and $199/yr off the app bill

  • Repeat clients going back to 2018 - one store at 14 projects across four years

How I work:

  • A diagnostic audit measures the actual problem - no guesswork, and the audit fee credits toward the fixes

  • Phased implementation - you approve each milestone

  • Every delivery closes with verified before/after numbers and a short list of the next opportunities I found

80+ projects completed. Clients across the US, Canada, UK, Australia, and Denmark.

Send me your store URL and I'll tell you exactly what's slowing it down - and whether your numbers can be trusted. No commitment needed.

Frequently asked questions about the shopexperts Score

Is the shopexperts Score the same as star ratings and reviews?

No. Reviews and star ratings reflect client satisfaction on specific projects. The shopexperts Score measures how much of an expert's overall reputation is independently verifiable. They're complementary — strongest when read together.

Why is my score lower than an expert I think I'm better than?

The score rewards proof, not just quality. If you haven't claimed your profile or submitted verification artifacts, you're leaving up to 40 points on the table — regardless of how good your work is. Completing those steps closes the gap quickly.

Does the shopexperts Score change over time?

Yes. It updates automatically as public signals change and as verification artifacts are submitted or lapse. Keeping your listing updated within the last 30 days helps maintain both your points and your confidence level.

Can an expert pay to raise their shopexperts Score?

No. Every point is tied to a real, checkable proof point. The only way to raise a score is to add genuine evidence — a live website, real reviews, verified identity, case studies, and an actively maintained profile.

What counts as "High Confidence"?

High Confidence means the score is well supported across both signal groups — typically a claimed, verified, and recently updated profile with on-platform reviews. It signals that the number reflects substantiated evidence rather than a thin or unclaimed profile.
